Glen you need some more donations?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Task bar at the top. "Quick links" Donate tab is all the way at the bottom.

Glen,

Perhaps an annual e-mail reminder to all RCF users about all the different cool features would be useful. Or maybe you do that already and I just missed it?

Something that includes: thanks again for joining, Flash Chat, Donate Link, FAQ, etc.

I'm still figuring out new things about the board, and I've been around for years, previously with a different username.

Coyote850's note was a good reminder to me to send in a little donation now.

I am not going to lie and say that I wouldn't try my damndest to get my parents to pay for this site, but I know that they most likely would not. I agree that you would be seen as more of a snobby site if people were made to pay for it, but at least it would weed out some of the one time posters that get banned very quickly. Oh well this is still one of the best site on the internet even without people paying. All that I can say is good luck with the donations, and you people with credit cards or access to one should get busy donating.

Talk about make my jump out of my chair, I hit refresh then bam contact billing. I was like ooooooooooooooNOOOOOOOOOO

LOL, no kidding. I was at work, where only a few people have internet priviliges on their work station computers. I went to refresh the page and was like, WTF?! They cut off my internet for looking at RCF? Needless to say, I was happy that it was due to high traffic and the such. Great indication of the quality of this site from many different angles.

These guys will be making $10 donations very soon with the Cavaliers record:

I'd rather just get a premium content section, such as Wine and Golds posts.

:fingersx: :chuckles: Oh well. As I've said in the past, one of the very few bets in this world that I don't mind losing.

Glen, my 2 pennies worth is I'd be glad to pay $10 and not because I post so much but rather to get the insight of the knowledge base that is realcavsfans.com. Some of the newer members are also very knowledgeable and I suspect the more irrational ones will disappear as quickly as they came. Keep up the good work and I'd like to think a lot of our more silent members also appreciate the updates and insights.

BTW, where'd the thanks button go?

I'll tell you if you tell me the name of the chick in your avatar.

Money is a very personal thing to everyone. Once you mention money, it scares almost anyone away. The reason some people are already willing to do that is because they have been a member here for a while and already familiar to the surroundings.

If a fee is a requirement, the registrations on the site will go down dramatically, and so would the popularity of the site, we should really be doing the opposite. Continue to make the site grow and make it successful as possible. Bum posters come and go, but they never last. It's just a natural thing to a message board. Every site has to go through it.

With that being said, I will never demand any money to be apart of this site. It just sounds too snooty. We really should just be humble members of the greatest Cavs board on the internet. Not point at others and belittle them for not being a part of our community, which is the vibe that people will get if we slap membership fee on them.

Everytime I see a post from you, I almost feel compelled to give thanks. This truly is the best Cavs site I've ever been to.

I had a quick question. I thought I remembered there being a thing where if you donated you got so many rep points for each dollar donated. Did that go away? I just ask because that was appealing to me at the beginning of signing up, in terms of some of the veteran posters here seeing that I wanted to become a contributor to this forum.

We have too many back to backs scheduled to expect 60, Heath. But, I like the spirit in getting some $$$ generated to our site. Excellent idea that should used as a vehicle in the future to bring i some needed cash for the Lebron2010 campaign ...

I'll hold out on the bet so others can get in on it, though.

This was originally posted by W&G in the Heath betting thread. I bet you that he has changed his tune now though. Wild that we had such low expectations for this team when the season had not even started yet, and now not only do we expect a win, but some fans lose thier minds if we do not win. Sorry I know that this is OT, but it had to be broguht to attention. Glen it looks like barring injury to LeBron that you will be getting 200 dollars near the end of the season.

Glen is right about not charging money...

In this information age, people simply are not willing to pay for most content delivery services; in this instance for example, a sports message board. Fairly soon, even the concept of a pay-site, even for pornography, will be so alien it would be laughable. Web 2.0 sites like MySpace and Facebook have really demonstrated that millions of dollars can be made simply be enticing large amounts of end-users to your product. More importantly however, those sites demonstrated the ability to garner large traffic without actually paying for content creation (articles and such), or being limited to a small number of staff writers and content developers. RealCavsFans is such a website. A site where the content is user driven, moderation and control is community based thereby alleviating the need for paid staffers, and the topic is concise enough to bring about a targetable userbase (Cavs Fans). Other examples include Daily Kos (great site), RedState (terrible site).

Almost all of these types of websites use advertisement as the primary means of paying for a dedicated server (although that's probably not necessary to run vBulletin, but it depends on the amount of traffic and quality of the server), sufficient bandwidth, and moderate content creation (which in most instances can be developed in-house).

What always surprised me was that I've never seen an ad on RCF. As a developer, I find that really amazing. Depending on the amount of traffic this site gets on in an average 24 span (unique IPs), I would at least recommend looking into the Google AdSense program. I've also heard that Google has started to offer a pay-per-impression program. I'm not too familiar with their current rates, as that's not really my area per se; however, I think it might be worth looking into - to provide some extra revenue to cover expenses at least. Yahoo has a partnership program as well, IIRC. There are others, but from what I've heard, Google AdSense is the best and most reliable (your check won't bounce) out there.

Just to add to this some more. I am an fanatic when it comes to jeeps, we own two. I just bought my second one. On to my point, the only other forums i visit regulary is jeepforum.com
They have a pretty intense membership program, it does not require you to pay but has several option and steps in memberships. I highly suggest you check it out.

You should make a one time fee for all the members that join within 2 weeks of the trade deadlines.

Good god think of all the money, and less annoying 10 year olds.
