Happy 30th Birthday to Kyrie Irving

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Very easily could be bath salts

In order to be reinstated by the team, Irving must fulfill six requirements, according to Shams Charania:

  • Apologize and condemn the film he promoted
  • Make a $500,000 donation to anti-hate causes
  • Complete sensitivity training
  • Complete anti-semetism training
  • Meet with the ADL and Jewish leaders
  • Meet with team owner Joe Tsai to demonstrate an understanding of the situation

I just hate how some people can use bad words and they're ok. Tarantino, H.p Lovecraft is celebrated, there have been a million actors who have done black face of some sort get it buried, but they decide who gets canceled for sure.

I think they should let him back if he just promises to shut up.

So, I need to push back on this and I'm going to do this very gently. Kyrie has repeatedly used very anti-semitic tropes and dog whistles over the past few years. Allusions to Jewish control of the media and them consisting of a subsection of elites that work to continue to impoverish and harm the African American / BIPOC community is a noxious use of his pulpit and the league should absolutely intercede. Kyrie's voice and the league's voice is inseparable and as such Kyrie has a responsibility to his employer to represent them properly. Him being suspended without pay for ostensibly a business week with a performance improvement plan feels like an appropriate response to his behavior. It is up to him to decide if he wants to follow this plan or not, and the repercussions from not following it will incur consequences that he alone will own.

As this is not a political thread, this is all I will say on this topic as to not derail the topic.

All this talk about Kyrie….. Gives me the warm & fuzzies….

This is my guy….

I know it sucks how it happened and I know he’s a weirdo… But for some reason I just love this dude…
One thing you can say, agree or disagree, he’s not a punk and he doesn’t let others control him

I prefer to forget about his career/public comments after 2017. Makes me feel better to believe he had just retired early.

This timeline fucking sucks.

I would say congratulations on 30 trips around the sun, but I know how he feels about that…

He’s not gonna do all that. Can’t wait to see this unfold.

That’s insane frankly

Being censured by Nike seems an adequately severe response to Kyrie's social naughtiness.
As far as his suspension is concerned, I'd let the other players on the team make the call. They have to live with him.
Time for all the rest of us to move on.

And I am going to push back on this. As a Jewish person I do not want to see the excuse of “anti-Semitic tropes and dog whistles” used to punish other peoples’ speech. I have grown up in very racially integrated environments my entire life and I know that attitudes like the ones Kyrie is expressing are not uncommon in the black community. I know that because I’ve had much more direct and blunt versions of the views Kyrie is flirting with expressed to my face by people who knew I was Jewish. These were not always bad experiences for me. Underlying these statements was often some curiousity and openness to learning and discussion. None of them felt like they would turn violent. In any case they were part of living in a diverse and free society where people are trying to make sense of things and sometimes do go down the wrong track in doing so.

It is also IMO ridiculous to say that Kyrie’s voice and the leagues voice are “inseparable”. If there was no capacity to distinguish between an individuals voice and their employers voice then that would be the end of free speech in this country

Do we even know where exactly Kyrie stands now?

What was his original claim and what did he apologize for?

What's a good representation of his views atm?

Oh and bow down bitches Kyrie has deemed me an original God's son.

This is so fucking ridiculous.
