Hue da Man - PC bulletpoints in OP here, discussion in Hue Jackson thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Joseph has been hinted at, but I can't remember by whom. Solari has been mentioned as potential OC

I think LaCanfora. It was once thought that Joseph was a lock for DC w/ Adam Gase but now he might follow Hue..... so who knows? All part of the game within the game I guess....

Al Saunders was his OC out in Oakland and was a consultant for Campbell after Philbin was fired in Miami. Wonder if he's in play?

In 2011, with Hue Jackson at the helm, Oakland committed 158 penalties for well over 1,000 yards. A league record.

Jackson wanted complete control over his staff and his defensive coordinator's (Chuck Bresnahan) defense ranked 27th overall giving up 5.1 yards per carry and over 4,000 yards through the air.

Sketchy hire at best.

Well, if that's as little information as you're going to use to judge the rest of his career I'd imagine they're all sketchy hires.

Can we stop picking out random factoid about coaches and trying to pretend that sole reason will cause their downfall?

I'm sure it sounds like sound logic in your head, but I promise you it sounds absolutely absurd to anyone with a slight sense of rationalization.

I didn't say that was the reason for his downfall. Merely pointing out some facts to back my opinion snarkmeister.

I've always been of the opinion that a highly penalized team is a coaching/discipline issue.

Calm down.

The one guy I trust when it comes to stuff like this is @Randolphkeys because he knows the Bay Area well and am sure knows more about Jackson's tenure in Oakland better than we do. Would be interested to hear his thoughts...

Calling it a sketchy hire at best solely based on penalty yardage in a one season sample is ridiculous. There's no need to double down on it.

Look at the team he was given, in a year where their general manager and owner died in office.

Using that as your base for labeling the hire is sketchy at best.

Winning 8 games in his one season as HC with the crypt keeper still alive tells me he excels in the face of dysfunction, and that is worth its weight in gold in a city like Cleveland.

Making Andy Dalton look like an All-Pro is 1 step short of an act of God.

Bengals assistants are also suceeding of late when they leave Marvin, and that makes me feel good because it indicates that it isn't all Marvin Lewis making the Bengals successful. It's a good sign.

So what do we like about Hue?
I think he got a raw deal in Oakland, but that's what happens when a new GM comes in. Oakland leading the league in penalties isn't that concerning to me because that is the MO of Oakland. Before Al Davis died guys like Vontaze Burfict were always Raiders. I'm not putting that on Hue.

Part of the reason I am so high on Hue is because of how low I have always been on Dalton. Dalton had a 106 QB rating this year. I think Hue has worked wonders with the Bengals offense, and yes he has a lot of talent on it, but he also was able to utilize that talent in unique ways. You know how we all thought Duke was underused all year? I doubt that would happen with Hue. He calls plays that put his players in positions to succeed. Eifert scored a touchdown a game this year. Last year they ran all over everyone with Hill and Bernard. I think he adapts to his talent, and adapts in game. I have watched a lot of Bengals games, and it seems like every time Hue has a good counter lined up. A screen for a blitz, a misdirection end around for an over pursuing defense.

He has head coaching experience. But one of my favorite things about Hue is he is an innovator. Watch this play:

Hue did shit like that all year. He also ran very creative TE screens and misdirection plays. Last year Sanu threw 3 passes. He is always mixing things up and getting his playmakers in space.

I think he is a very very bright offensive mind who is very well liked by his players. I think he is a very smart guy who will buy into what we are building here. Wherever Hue goes I think he will field a good offense. I really hope it is here.

It's sketchy until proven otherwise. Like Pettine, Shurmer, Chud, ect ect.

Just because I'm not jumping up and down for joy for another head coach with little experience doesn't mean he won't be a decent head coach but that story hasn't been written yet. I can only go by his previous head coaching situation.

Pettine went 7-9 and Jackson with 8-8 with pretty horrible teams. Both were fired by their respective organizations.

I'm not on these coaching bandwagons anymore. It's hard to get excited for another unproven coach when the last 15 years are taken into consideration.

But by all means have at it Jim Rome.

You mean the one assistant who left that's been successful as a head coach (Zimmer)?

I'm not on any bandwagon, you're reasoning is just dumb.

If every hire is sketchy because it's the Browns, whatever. That's a tired point as well.

At least come up with something better than a one year stat line. Doesn't even make any sense.

You can point to literally any coach and play that game.

It certainly seems like either the media really was on their game, or this is starting to draw out a little longer than I'm comfortable with. Hope the Browns get the guy they want, but I'm weary of the (now) old reports that the Browns are ready to make a commitment. Sounds like something fed to the media by the org to show Hue they mean business.
