Hue da Man - PC bulletpoints in OP here, discussion in Hue Jackson thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
49ers are going to interview coughlin. He will rebuild that franchise and leave it in good shape 3 years from now when he hangs up his boots.

Really the thing the Browns have working in their favor is money and the ability to offer input in personnel... Both teams have strong GMs in place and aren't the type of franchises to chase after candidates with money..

So yes theoretically they may be better gigs (QB, stability, roster, market, etc) but when it comes down to it, the Browns likely have an edge in two deciding factors; money and power...

The Niners were serious contenders for about three seasons. Plenty of fans are still coming to grips with the rebuild. The front office hasn't really figured out what they did wrong yet.

I wouldn't even go so far as to say QB. Kaep is a disaster - they do not have the quarteback of the future on that roster. The Browns, picking #2, may stand to have just that come May.

I wonder what the hold up is? Are they really deciding if he's their dude or is it more about trying to figure out the compensation package to offer him?

I think its more figuring it out if he will accept or not, because offering and getting rejected is a real bad look

This. Jimmy was rejected by a number of candidates and ended up with Pettine. It was some serious egg on his face. And that is saying something when you are talking about Truck Stop.

^This random fan thinks way too highly of the 49ers organization. Reality check: They're as bad or worse than the Browns.

And it doesn't even sound like the 49'ers are even completely settled on the guy, either.

I think it's more the fact that offers were made, rejected, made public, and then that process was repeated. Jobs get turned down for other jobs. That happens. Offering the job to Marrone, Kelly, and being turned down by Bowles, Gase, and McDaniels and then finally settling on Pettine is considerably worse than offering to Hue, and him going elsewhere.

They're much more tight lipped this time around, which is a good thing. I hope, however, that they're (the four/five at the table) aren't at a deadlock and that's why jobs weren't offered to Gase/Jackson.

FWIW, I really think Gase was given an interview as table service. I'm not sure he was ever high on their pecking order.

Seems pretty apparent that Jackson is their choice. If he is not the coach of the Browns next year I don't know how else to interpret that other than they failed to get their guy.

Put me in the group of people that think "don't want to get egg on your face, only want to propose if you know the answer" is really stupid and childish. If we are worrying about image and ego taking a hit from a guy accepting a job to head coach elsewhere, or are trying to reserve the "oh well we didn't make an offer anyway" excuse then that is frightening to me.

If you like the guy make a freaking offer. If he uses it as leverage so be it. You don't always get your first choice, it's a competitive market for the guy. But not making an offer because you want to be sure first in an attempt to save face if he goes elsewhere doesn't sit right with me at all. Seems petty.

Not saying this is what they are doing, just addressing the theory of if that is what they are doing.

man..im glad to be on a smart and serious Browns forum..I used to go to this Scout Watercooler forum from time to time and nearly lost my mind reading some of the stuff they write. Its like those guys lost their damn mind over there and they seem to hate Ohio state, are negative nancies, and extremely divided as a forum..I never once saw stats, videos or gifs or anything that support peoples opinion over there..just opinions with no substance.

We have our share of negativity over here (it's a Cleveland forum), but I find 90% of the conversation to be extremely intelligent and thought out, even when it gets heated.

I have a hard time visiting any other forum for sports talk these days, to be honest.
