I've torn my meniscus 3 times in my life. The first time, an argument with my insurance company put off surgery for 1 year. I tore it a second time and got immediate surgery. A few years later, I tore my left knee meniscus and had immediate surgery. My right knee was replaced 21 years after my first tear due to acute arthritis.

Why is Sexton not getting a simple menisectomy? Needs a second opinion? There is NO option. That worn meniscus will wear further and start creating bone to bone friction. That would end his career.

He would miss 6 weeks if he had the surgery. He'd be walking in less than a week. Is there something we're not being told?

If you read this article, you'll see there's ALOT to consider when it comes to a meniscectomy:

Generally, a repair, if done correctly, is better, especially for a 22 year old athlete, like Sexton. Not really a decision you want t rush into, without knowing all of the facts.

Collin is a very smart young man and he and his family made the right decision '

As I posted earlier it would be a mistake for him to have any of his meniscus removed. Lightly shaved or smoothed, maybe. He needs to preserve every micrometer of cushion he has.

I assume this drove the decision, and that is the correct choice.

agreed.

Sucks losing Colin for the entire season, but getting it done and over with instead of a 'patch job' is best for his future. Getting the repair done will lessen his chance at osteoarthritis.
