The Buckeyes are having alot of issues in terms of their play. The most obvious has to do with their offense and the use of their bench. Both of these have been an issue since coach Matta has been here. What I have seen is a lack of substitutions every year which one stunts the growth of the younger players, and two it wears the guys down over the course of the year who are actually playing. Using this year as an example I see potential on the bench in terms of people that can play and the coach needs to make it a point to try and work them into the game. Freshman or not we have an athletic wing, a center who can take the load off of Jared, a point gaurd who can go in for craft when he starts getting out of control, and we also have a guy in laquinton Ross who everyone raves about yet we dont get the opportunity to see what the kid can do. This is just one of the problems that i see with what the buckeyes are doing as a team.
The second issue is the offense that is being run. For the last eight years, we have seen an offense where one or two players are moving and everyone else is standing still. As a fan it is hard watching this stagnant offense game after game and on top of that we are not seeing players setting screens for each other. How do you expect to take adavantage of the talent on your team if players are not being used correctly. I also feel that the offense takes a hit with the way aaron craft has been playing lately. It seems as if he is pressing to much and is trying to make plays when he should be controlling the pace of the game. Another thing is why does he find he needs to dribble to the corner or dribble in a circle under the basket. This does not benefit the team and as we have seen cause turnovers.
While this is some what of a rant, I am a huge fan and a support of coach matta and aaron craft who are two i seemed to call out the most on here. We have a coach who can bring in talent and point gaurd who is feared for his motor and defensive abilities, I just want to see some things change for the benefit of the team. Heres to the team picking it up and winning us another big ten title and hopefully more. GO Bucks!!
