Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So is he playing good because he's improved or is it because he's been inserted into the starting lineup? Because we all know JR is gonna take that spot when he's back. And if Shump goes back to shit when he goes to the beach, that would suck. Hard to tell

Does jr have to start tho? Shump starting might be the best move. JR is a lot more reliable of a scorer off the bench and his defense was pretty bad earlier in the year. I'd rather have shump start off on the other teams best scorer.

Oh yeah I'd definitely want Shump to start if he keeps playing like this. I just think the team will start JR when he's back, don't you? What's best for the team isn't what the Cavs might do.

If Shump continues this way I see no reason in not keeping him with the starting lineup. JR would be instant offense off the bench. Plus I feel like Shump has consistently outscored JR when paired with the starters. He's regularly scoring 15+

Shump has been awesome this year, probably one of our best and more consistent players overall, Yes his defense is not as great as it was two years ago but still pretty good, the last couple of games hes a lot more active on that end getting deflections and closing out very well.

I remember Blatt keeping Shump with the starting lineup after the JR Smith suspension and it worked out, Shump for some reason plays better with the starters, I think pipe gonna pipe no matter if he starts or comes off the bench cuz his game doesn't really change.

Would JR accept a bench role without griping?

Does Shump's progression with starters signify how much we miss JR as a unit?

Correct me if I'm wrong but if I remember right the original plan was to have shump start and for jr to come off the bench but then shump got hurt and jr was playing to well as a starter to disrupt itm

I'm aware of JR's history coming off the bench. But he's known to be "emotional" and he's been a starter the last couple years when healthy. Just wondering if it does anything to his psyche if he's asked to go back to 6th man role...

Sounds like history is repeating itself.

Since joining the starting lineup on Jan. 13, the Cavaliers have gone 4-5.

In that time he's posted the 2nd best On-Court (+9.9) and the team's second best Off-court (-16.5, Ky next at -29 if you can believe it, which I can)

Meanwhile Liggins is -30 On-Court. (McRae is -27 for comparison's sake). Frye is -14.2 which certainly tracks with the eye-test.

I have to say Shumpert's play has improved steadily as a member of the starting lineup, while it seems the second squad has gotten that much worse.

Part of it is Korver who is -5.7 on-court while playing 5th most minutes on team. Maybe that will "normalize" maybe it won't.

I really think you have to move Shump to the bench and try to stabilize the unit. Liggins confidence is probably too shot to recover (or he probably wouldn't be a D-Leaguer) tho' I still want to give him another shot.

However the only really logical thing imo is to put Korver in starting lineup and Shump on bench to HOPEFULLY stabilize that unit.

the sheer idea that Shumpert (who's been pretty inconsistent on both ends in his time in Cleve) is needed to stabilize a unit says everything about where we are at this point.

here are the referenced stats fyi...

EDIT: To be fair, McRae has accumulated his -27 in 50 minutes, giving him a big edge on everyone in sheer suckage/per moment.

Gotta start JR when hes back.

We're too deadly when JR is on. It's like we have a big 4 sometimes. He's that good.

Shump will help solidlify the bench as well.
