Isaiah Mobley: 2023 SL MVP

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can't argue with that. So many college athletes with that level of talent become entitled, etc.. Those guys obviously are both very well grounded, and yeah, that screams good parenting.
Surface level assessments incoming:

The parents show up and support their kids too. They don’t make it about themselves. No drama or scandals I’m aware of to date.

I still think it’s highly likely he takes the BIG leap within the next year or two. I assume the Cavs understand that showing a family like that loyalty could pay dividends two contracts from now.

Investing in his bro is one of the smarter things they’ve done.

He has skills. I would like to see him get some run at the big show..

Unfortunately he doesn’t have the size or speed.

I expect he will get an NBA contract from the Cavs in the offseason and be in the rotation next year. He has been getting stronger since coming in last year.

Isaiah Mobley's wingspan is only one inch less than he brother's - He has 7'3 wingspan compared to Evan's 7'4. 6'10 in shoes (so 2 inches shorter than Evan in shoes). His standing reach is 8'11.5 compared to Evan's 9'0.

Evan is undoubtedly the more talented, but Isaiah likely will be able to play rotational minutes.

Aside from that play, I wouldn't say he stuck out much on the team. He doesn't seem as fast etc...as the other players, but I will say I wasn't always watching him.

Also, for what it's worth, I think Emoni has a long way to go. His shooting touch is pure, no doubt, but pretty much everything else needs work. He didn't look like an NBA player to me.

I would be shocked if Isaiah is ever anything more than an emergency big at best. Not knocking him, its just crazy how talented you have to be a NBA player, and Isaiah is just never going to have the speed unless he develops a Niang level jumper.

I recall the same arguments about Wade.

Not at all. Wade was always a good to great defender. Wade's issue was his reluctance to take shots. Not at all the same argument. But slowness or lack of athletic ability is not a Wade issue.

And remember, Wade got minutes from the first year. And by the 2nd year, Wade was already a rotational player. Same cant be said for Isaiah.

While agree with the thesis, the team was in a vastly different spot when Wade was a rookie/G-Leaguer and IMob now. If we were struggling to get 25 wins and were tanking for draft position, I have no doubt we would be taking a flier on Isaiah to see if there is anything that translates. A team vying for positioning at the top of a conference does not have that same luxury. It sucks for borderline guys like Mobley or even Bates. But its just the situation they find themselves in.

This in a nutshell, he will be part of this franchise as long as big brother is still around, he really needs to be a 3pt shooter stretch big man, not sure how long he can be a 2 way player, but he will get a minimum contract to be that 13 players on the team….
