My entire life, I have been one of those types of people who are guilty of being addicted to "Stuff". My cd's. My dvd's. My electronics. My jersey collection. Etc,Etc,Etc,Etc. I have been bad about it too (Borderline crazy). My collections of "Stuff" have been to the point to where people would come to my house and jaws would drop. Ive always used computer programs to keep my "stuff" all accounted for and in order whether it be my musical instruments collection or my movies. My wife and I have been married for 7 years and have a 6 year old son who is already following in Daddy's footsteps with his "stuff".
Last Wednesday (June 18th 2008) we had a major house fire. When i say "Major" i mean we lost out entire house and everything inside of it. We even lost our animals.
It hasn't even been a week yet of living in a hotel and my view of life feels as if it is 100% different. My wife and I were both at work when the fire took place and my son was at bible school. We are all safe and together. It has made me realize that no matter how much "stuff" in the world that I used to have, It was just stuff.
I wrote this here because this board has sort of become my sanctuary. Although I dont post here a lot, I read what everyone posts here everyday and have come to know all of you. I hope that everyone here can read this and maybe help put some of the things that we as people value and put it all into perspective. Go home and kiss your wives, husbands and children and remember that there are much more important things in life than the things that we all come to depend on.
