My entire life, I have been one of those types of people who are guilty of being addicted to "Stuff". My cd's. My dvd's. My electronics. My jersey collection. Etc,Etc,Etc,Etc. I have been bad about it too (Borderline crazy). My collections of "Stuff" have been to the point to where people would come to my house and jaws would drop. Ive always used computer programs to keep my "stuff" all accounted for and in order whether it be my musical instruments collection or my movies. My wife and I have been married for 7 years and have a 6 year old son who is already following in Daddy's footsteps with his "stuff".

Last Wednesday (June 18th 2008) we had a major house fire. When i say "Major" i mean we lost out entire house and everything inside of it. We even lost our animals.

It hasn't even been a week yet of living in a hotel and my view of life feels as if it is 100% different. My wife and I were both at work when the fire took place and my son was at bible school. We are all safe and together. It has made me realize that no matter how much "stuff" in the world that I used to have, It was just stuff.

I wrote this here because this board has sort of become my sanctuary. Although I dont post here a lot, I read what everyone posts here everyday and have come to know all of you. I hope that everyone here can read this and maybe help put some of the things that we as people value and put it all into perspective. Go home and kiss your wives, husbands and children and remember that there are much more important things in life than the things that we all come to depend on.

God Bless you and your family my man...

thanks for the post

Thanks for sharing Matty. What a tough thing to go through. So sorry to hear about your pets and belongings, but at least you and your family are safe.

You are exactly correct - the things acquired through one's life are just that - stuff. These things can be replaced.

Well wishes are coming your way from me.

Sorry to hear that man, but like you said it's just stuff. Glad to hear that your family is OK.

Its nice to hear someone with such a positive outlook facing such adversity. I wish you and your family well. I am glad no one was injured, although it is sad about the animals. Please feel free to post here more often, if for no other reason if you need a pick me up from the fellow board. I belong to seveal other message boards including one for my proffession. I find this board to be by far the best, and thats even when we are just discussing life. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Good Luck.

I am very sorry to hear about your pets.

Thanks guys. It really means a lot. My family and I have been staying in a Hotel and that hasn't made it any easier. We had pretty good insurance though so we are being put up in temporary housing this coming Thursday. It will be a relief just to get out of that hotel and start getting back on our feet.

Thanks again for the well wishes.

Terrible story..luckily none of you were home for it and you still have eachother. "Stuff" can always be replaced...family cannot.

Much respect man, hope you come out of this alright.
