"James' exit from Cleveland is inevitable"

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The big argument used in the Newsday article says that Lebron's aspirations can only be achieved in a big market using big marketing. However, credible, CITED, sources in Brian's article, including freaking Maverick Carter, show that for the Lebron brand to succeed, a championship is a must.

I have said this all along, great article Stereo.

For Lebron to get where he wants to, he has to win multiple championsips. If Cleveland proves to be that place where he can achieve that, then he will stay. If it looks like he has better opportunities for a dynasty then he will leave. Right now, it looks like Ferry is making alot of smart moves to prepare this team to be clevelands first dynasty since Jim Brown's playing days. But, if for some reason it doesnt work out and Lebron leaves, I will understand and support his decision. Lebron deserves a championship...he is to good. He will be loyal to winning a title. I think cleveland can be that place though. Not sure how either ny or nj have a shot since their franchises are a mess and it takes more than 2 years to turn a team around. Boston began their turnaround several years ago with drafts. NY and NJ have very little young talent...especially NY.

Maybe LBJ 2014 when his next contract is up the KNicks and Nets will be able to steal him away from Clevelands depleted talent levels. Depleted because of the multiple finals appearences and tired veteran players. LBJ doesn't owe anything to Cleveland, but he does owe it to his fans to get that ring, and I want that to be in Cleveland.

"My understanding is, he's out for sure," the executive said. "He'll run it out to free agency for sure, and Cleveland is definitely not the highest chance of the teams. Everyone that knows him and that he talks to privately says he wants to get out of there. Obviously, New York's been talked about, but there's going to be lots of teams with money that year, 15 or so."

15 TEAMS WITH ENOUGH CAP SPACE TO SIGN LEBRON???? No freaking way.

Yeah that would mean that the other 15 teams bought every single non 2010 expiring in order for those teams to have cap space.

I am guessing as of now it looks like that. But with teams needing to resign and trades made for longer term contracts, that only 5 teams will have the flexability and none will be in as good of shape to win now as the cavs...Lebron will stay. We will not get a sueper star sidekick. We will already have won one championship. We will add a good second tier big man like Darko.

All my guesses, I should see how close I come in 2 years, lol.

That quote made me chuckle a little, makes me wonder what executive will be using slang like this. Maybe we should try and narrow it down..... ;)

That kind of sounds like a former GM that would accidentally take too many sleeping pills, if you ask me.

LMFAO :chuckles: Oh cheap shot at Isaih Thomas there eh.

I'd be right there with ya if they hadn't said "Western Conference GM". Although, that could be a bunch of crap too, like the rest of that article.

I'm not going to read that garbage again but didn't it say there was two execs?

Ha. Well, the guy's kinda close, but it's a load of crap. Yeah, some teams'll have space, but 80% aren't even close to being considered threats to lure Lebron there.

What's the rough estimate for the cap, $60 million? And Lebron's up for, what, $20 mil/year starting roughly? So a team would need have at MOST $40 million in guaranteed salaries for 2010/11. Let's see, assuming no big moves and expected re-signings & options....

Atlanta - $25 million (Assuming resiging/options on Horford, Williams & Acie Law)
Chicago - maybe $23 million (and only if they ditch Tyrus & Sefalosha and their cap holds, & don't keep Ben Gordon)
Cleveland - $40 million (not counting Lebron & other cap holds we might have), plus we can offer an extra year others can't
Houston - $22 million (not counting McGrady's cap hold, assuming resigning Scola)
LA Clippers - $22 million
Miami - $22 million (factoring in D.Wade's cap hold)
Minnesota - $38 million
Nets - $20 million
OKC - $40 million
Phoenix - $20 million
Sacramento - $39 million
Toronto - $26 million

** The Pistons could have space, but only if they don't resign Hamilton & don't option Stuckey - no chance
** The Knicks are only a possibility if they can dump MASSIVE salaries. I mean MASSIVE.

So who's even a whiff of a threat there? Miami if they get good again, Clippers maybe... the pretty LA lights? I still honestly see the Knicks as a long shot.

And this is all based on my estimates. Half those teams could drop off that list if they give bigger contracts than expected to their young players.

It's so much less cut and dry than all these national media types think. There are honestly very few options for Lebron that will make as much sense as Cleveland if we continue to contend for titles every year.

YAY normal world again. Wow im tired of people saying this. I can't wait till 2010 when lebron signs with cleveland. What will they alll talk about then

LeBron leaving Cleveland in 2016 (after his next contract is up):chuckles:

The cap will be closer to $65 million...max first year will be 30% of cap approximately 19 million.

We will not have $40 million gurunteed not including James...Currently we have 20 million for sure, we will have $39 million inculding james, but not including AV, Z or anyone else we might sign or trade for in the next 2 years. Other than that I agree. Crazy to think 15 teams will be $19 million under the cap.

LeBron is becoming such a problem... Again, if we would have just went with Darko this would not be an issue right now... Detroit isn't feeling this type of stress...

Does anyone think that Lebron is more likely to leave if we win in the next 2 years? I see him looking at not winning in Cleveland as a failure, and that would be hard on his ego. However, if he wins here and then goes on to win somewhere else he will be seen as a Shaq type dominant player. I just don't see that happening though, because like Shaq, you pretty much have to keep chasing the rings on a bunch of different teams. I really see him more slowly steadily accumulating rings in Cleveland more like Jordan and less like Shaq.
