The key to big men has always been keeping them involved in the offensive end.

If you get them the ball and they score, they come back more engaged on defense. And if you get it to them and they miss, they try to make up for that miss on the other end.

But when they don't get many touches, and becomes just an afterthought, they tend to grow less engaged and aggressive because they don't see what their role is. It's demoralizing.

We actually see the same thing with guards who don't get touches. It's just much more unusual for that to happen.

He is atoning for last years knick series. Good for him. He is a monster on the boards and he is very undemanding on offense, he gets his points but doesn't need plays run for him. And at 20 million a year, he is a bargain

Allen's advantage over most bigs is his speed and explosiveness. To force him into a back-to-the-basket, grind-it-out, role is to play to his weaknesses.

Found this interesting sorting through the regular season stats. Allen averaged 16.5 pts and 10.5 reb.

Here's the list of the other guys that averaged 15+ pts and 10+ reb this year:

• Embiid
• Jokic
• AD
• Wemby
• Sabonis
• BAM
• Vucevic
• Ayton

Embiid, Giannis, BAM, AD, Wemby are the only guys on that list that are as good or better defensive player than Allen. Not saying he's as good as those guys as overall players, but he's in very rare company as a big.

While the eventual move might be to trade him, this list shows why he’ll be difficult to replace for a number of reasons.

Watching Allen & Wade work together on defense during the streak showed how valuable Allen can be when matched with the right teammates. Those two just effortlessly switching and both able to keep the perimeter player in front while the other played strong in the post was impressive. Allen isn’t a superstar - he doesn’t have the offense for that - but he is a very high level role player.
