Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@moz, 50 years from now you will be bouncing your grandson on your lap telling him about the late 2010s when the Browns' Osweiler-to-Gordon connection was the most feared in the league.

If Gordon has a 2% chance of returning to the game as a contributor, and all it potentially costs me is Jordan Payton's roster spot and his 1 catch for 3 yards... I'm cool with that.

I personally view the odds that Gordon plays for 2 consecutive years without any suspenses as less than 2% so to me it's kind of just like why bother.

I think the odds that we trade him and he dominates the league elsewhere is just Browns fans assuming everything bad always happens to us.

Genuinely don't believe Gordon has a chance of making it 2 years without getting suspended again.
Thats fine. I respect our opinion. I totally get it.

...but why chance it? Its not like we would pay him if he has an issue again.

Important to remember though that his last suspension was from having one drink on a team flight after a game. People are looking more at the end result of the suspension and ignoring how stupid the length and severity of the suspensions have been. Yes he broke the rules but the punishment, especially when you look at all the shit that's happened in the league since his first suspension don't fit the crime.

Then there's also this

Do you think the Steelers would even consider moving on from Bryant? And Josh Gordon is levels above Bryant.

Lol, sure. Josh is such a troubled individual. Hope he gets the help he needs:jerkoff:

We probably aren't going to agree on this. Josh is just a fuck up in my eyes. I'm not going to shed a single crocodile tear about his weed addiction. He can fuck out of here with that nonsense

I'm about as unsympathetic as you can get on Josh costing himself likely over 80 million dollars. I'm sure everyone could already tell

God you're an asshole.

Think Sashi's take on this is right on point.

You have to trust Jackson and staff to evaluate his mental, see if he's right. If he is, you give him a chance to prove himself here.

Gordon/Coleman is a dynamic combination that can help develop a QB.
And if he fails again, it literally costs you nothing.

I like the approach as some of you have mentioned--if he's going to be a success, it's sure as shit going to be with us.

If he fails, it's going to be with us, and it's going to have cost us absolutely nothing.

Actually I don't think anybody knows what his last suspension was from. After he announced he was leaving football to get help, he was later suspended indefinitely. He messed up again and alcohol wasn't the issue this time. Its either weed is a bad thing or it isn't. It's an "addiction" or it isn't (even though I've had many people try to tell me it isn't addictive). It can't be that the suspension term is shitty because the offense is minor AND it be serious enough that he needs real help.

Because he's a piece of shit

Can't wait until he fails another drug test. I'll be here to gloat

Just want to move on from this moron
If he fails, though, it costs us absolutely nothing. We don't have to pay him and he'd likely be suspended indefinitely again--probably for good. Sure, maybe it's only a 5% chance that he stays clean for two seasons. But even for that 5% chance, it's worth it to keep him.

After all, he's only 25 years old. He's been an idiot who keeps breaking rules--even if you don't agree with the severity of the rule. I don't feel sorry for him one bit. However, it truly can be chalked up to immaturity. The 5% chance that he's finally grown up--it's the biggest reward possible.

There is zero downside. The downside is letting him go and he finally decides to be an adult in his mid-twenties for someone else.

Now, the foolish thing the Browns could do is count on him. Don't count on him. Prepare for life without him, and anything you get out of him is all gravy.

Maybe he puts a solid season together. Then, once he finally has a market again, you consider trading him if you truly don't feel that he's changed. But for the love of God, let him at least get a market. You don't just cut him.

Someone get LBJ on speed dial to mentor this kid.

(Last time Josh Gordon was relevant we all hated Lebron James....my how times have changed).

Got suspended for weed once. Sizzurp once. Alcohol once. That doesn't sound like a weed addiction. You don't have to feel sorry for him though. That's cool and most people don't. But it sounds like your cheering for him to fail at life which is weird because if he wasn't a football player would you care either way?

Sort of weed twice, he came into the NFL with a mark because of his college weed suspension.

The alcohol is utter bullshit, 2 drinks on a plane to vegas because of a DUI, but he wasnt the pilot so who cares.

He deserved about half of his suspensions. I think the more troubling issue is he clearly suffers from Depression or why else would he so often self medicate.

Existential Nihilism is hard, Lee.

Not sure how an athlete can believe in Existential Nihilism since their meaning of life is about winning a championship.

But i do think Gordon is deeper than many are giving him credit for, i know it was a joke i just think the guy has true demons that i am hoping he is over.

The suspension terms are shitty because the NFL drug test are 5x more strict than drug test for the Olympics. The suspension terms are shitty because Josh Gordon started his NFL career off in the whole because of what he did in college but if he beat the shit outta his girlfriend he would not have missed any time at all.

Let's be real here. It's easy for people to rag on Josh Gordon. He hasn't done himself a lot of favors but the more people rag on his shortcomings the less attention gets paid to how out of touch the NFL and their system of punishment is. If they were gonna punish Gordon for what he did in college then they should have gave him 8 games from the jump. Then his next mistake should've been the whole season. Instead they have all these baby steps and conditions that really dragged this whole situation out longer than it should have gone. Retesting A and B samples and then literally changing the rules during the whole process.

Hold the NFL accountable for how they handled this situation which has been horrible from the jump. Why suspend a guy 4 times for the same violations with no condition to mandate he get help? If they were never going to offer him help then why the hell did you keep letting him back and extending the punishments? The whole way it is set up is dumb. It doesn't benefit the player, the team, or even the league. Everybody is a loser the way it's set up. Over weed.
