Kareem Hunt: One Pissed Off Runner!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Any team that signed him was going to take a PR hit regardless. It's a sad state when we can compare female-assault videos from player to player but that is the day and age we live in.

With that said, we've seen much worse and we've certainly heard much worse about players still playing / renown today. For chrissakes, Ray Lewis was tied to a murder and was named Super Bowl MVP after the court case. Perhaps if a female had been murdered, he would've been ousted from the league?

Hunt has potential to be one of the best backs in the league. Everyone claiming that he isn't worth the hassle simply because he plays RB baffles me. This isn't a win now move. This is a trial run, which could pay tenfold in the years to come. The kid is 23 years old and is immensely talented.

I'd much rather deal with the hassle of giving a troubled player a second chance on an incredibly tight lease vs. the hassle of perpetually sucking. Good teams take chances. I know we aren't used to that notion yet but this isn't the first controversial signing in league history and it certainly won't be the last.

I'd advise everyone to actually read the statements made by Dorsey and Hunt before crafting a premature witch hunt.

Don't hit women = high horse?

Maybe sit this one out, champ.
That’s a misinterpretation.

He clearly meant that people claiming everyone should oppose this move from a football standpoint due to Kareem’s personal mistake = high horse.

I think one thing to consider—let’s say Kareem Hunt finishes his career in Cleveland, is a model citizen, speaks out against violence to women, and forever remembers his mistake.

At that point, is it still a bad signing or did the Browns assist him in growing as a man?

Oh, I know how he is... both with LeBron and now with cases such as these. I just hope he's not a judge, cop, or person of power where this kind of black and white mindset has influence over other people's lives.

I'm done with it and am going to stay away from personal attacks on him because I'm not trying to get a PM from a mod threatening to be banned. People like that just aren't worth it.

Why don't we just all agree to stay away from personal attacks in general? We don't know each other personally, so we should probably keep that in mind - and that goes for myself too.

This is a complicated issue that not everyone will agree on. It's also a society-wide issue, not just sports, that elicits strong feelings.

I hope Kareem gets help for his anger/violence issues, I really do. I also think that once he serves whatever suspension he gets, he should be permitted to play again.

But what I won't do is minimize what he did, which I believe many are doing here. I'm not sure how that means I'm acting morally superior, and I don't know how in the world that relates to LeBron, but brownsbuck is entited to his opinions.

By the way, I do appreciate Kareem has owned this. I hope he gets help and never does something like this again. I personally just didn't want that to play out here.

Don’t you dare start another moral high horse about avoiding personal attacks now.

That’s way too many high horses for me to keep track of in this thread.

@Randolphkeys is going to swoop by on his high horse and close up this thread, too, for too much high horse riding.

I, of course, say this from my moral high ground...

...Which is on top of the mountain of Godly-ness....

...While I sit on my mighty tall stallion.

So, I’m not a MKC supporter because I feel that she never provides original content...

But she had some interesting comments on Sports Center right now.

She claimed that Kareem has been doing many little things in Cleveland already to help raise awareness, but it’s not something he wants notoriety for so she won’t get into it. This has been happening for weeks now.

She also claimed that he wants to get very involved with school children locally to explain the importance of the issues and raise awareness on how to treat one another with respect.

This, of course, is in addition to requirements that the Browns have laid out with counseling, anger management, etc.

Fact of the matter is being on our football team isn’t going to make him any less shitty of a person.

Being on a football team isn’t going to make him hit women more. I really don’t care - Joe Mixon absolutely ripped a woman in the face and got drafted in the second round. Why doesn’t Hunt get a second chance for a far lesser event.

I’m amazed how many people don’t like this because of the PR hit

I’m glad the Browns cared more about doing what they thought was best than shaping their actions based on media reaction

You should do something you view as right or wrong based on your own beliefs. Not because the court of public opinion demands such and such. Fuck a PR hit

I go back and forth on the PR hit, and obviously you don't think a PR issue matters, no need to debate that as I don't see us changing opinions if it matters or not.

That said, I do think Hunt deserves a 2nd chance. I don't think he is a woman abuser, but clearly he has issue with alcohol and anger management which he is getting classes for. I am not sure he is sincere, that is for Dorsey and Goddell to decide. But this is an interesting one to me because we are taking on a problem that I don't see a huge return for, and sometimes that is the right thing to do to help out this young man that needs help.

I really have gone back and forth on this one.

If Kareem turns his career around, Dorsey is God in Cleveland.

If Kareem fumbles a second chance, Dorsey is still god in Cleveland.

Still stand on this move being a legitimate very low risk, extremely high reward.

We got one of the best free agents for baggage and a million bucks. Can absolutely cut him at any given time. Or he can succeed and make the Browns a better football team, while becoming a better person.

Win/Win
