You notice how he added "in his eyes"? If he honestly thought Kobe was the best in the league, he wouldn't have said that. You aren't going to here anybody say "LeBron is the best player in the league, in my eyes." Everyone knows that LeBron is the best player in the league: you don't have to state it's your opinion, because pretty much everyone accepts it as true. I truly believe Kenny Smith just hates LeBron.

If Kobe wins another ring, yes, he is the best player in the league. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. We as Cavs fans can't argue, and I would hope (but dont expect) LeBron fans dont argue it either.
Until LeBron gets a ring, or Kobe falls off the face of the Earth, he can't be considered the best player in the league. As much as we like to point to LeBron's regular season dominance, the regular season means NOTHING.

Kobe Bryant hasn't won anything without Shaq or Gasol. He rode Shaq's coattails and he couldn't lead his team anywhere without being gifted Gasol from Memphis.
If Kobe is so fucking great, why is it that he finished so low on the MVP voting? Why is it that he couldn't lead a Shaq less or Gasol less team anywhere, acted like a diva, flirted with the Clippers, and threw his teammates under the bus while wanting to be traded? If he's so invaluable, why is it that the Lakers have shown that they can win without him?
The hype this guy gets is undeserved. He's not even the best player on his team right now.

His numbers in the OKC series and even the Utah series were not that impressive. Still good, but not amazing.
LeBron's numbers in the Bulls series were phenomenal.
Let's not discount the Boston defense here. Look at what they are doing to the supposedly unstoppable Magic offense...

The Lakers have pretty much sauntered into the Finals too. They played a Utah Jazz team that was without AK47 for half of the series and without Okur the entire series. They're playing a Phoenix Suns team whose starting center just came back from injury. Amare and Frye are horrible defensive players. The match ups have favored them heavily. They didn't have to play Denver and they didn't have to play Dallas.When they played a team that actually played good defense (Thunder) they were almost defeated even though the Thunder has no playoff experience.
I'm 100% positive they would have lost to Houston in the playoffs this year if Yao were healthy.
