Kevin Durant Leaves OKC- Joining Warriors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Been talking about the Celtics for years now...saw this coming a long time ago. This Summer, or next, they will strike.

Easily our biggest threat in the future of the East...

BREAKING: Boston radio personality thinks Boston sports team will sign superstar free agent.

Remember the last time the Celtics signed a star free agent? Yeah, me either.

There are maybe 3-4 players in the league that would be an upgrade on Russell Westbrook. The Celtics aren't getting any of them. There's no point for KD to leave right now.

Agree...if they had lost to the Spurs, I think he leaves...but leading 3-1 on the Warriors with a chance to go to the Finals and being a major part of the collapse...that sealed what he will do this summer...

OKC showed themselves as a legit title contender with a young core. They are a role player or two from being arguably the best team. I don't see how you walk away from that. I'd be shocked if Durant doesn't stick around on a short term deal. Keeps his financial options open while simultaneously keeping pressure on OKC to improve and not pinch pennies as they've done in the past.

What most don't understand is theres many reports KD does not enjoy playing with WB. The okc crowd chanting MVP MVP to WB and not KD. Ect...

Its more then just about winning, whether they were up 3-1 or not on GSW, they lost and a lot people seem to agree stuff like that is a franchise killer type stuff. He hasn't said he will be back with OKC yet, which speaks volume that he is going to hear pitches from teams at the least. Then he will decide... Lamarcus Aldridge left Portland just last season after they had some decent playoff runs, some of these guys like a change of scenery and feel it can make them better players in the long run. Plus who wants to stay in the west with a 73 win team in the warriors? KD wants to be the "guy" , hes not in OKC. Very possible he bolts.

Please post these reports. And who gives a shit about a crowd chanting MVP? They've chanted MVP for KD and he's actually WON an MVP award.

You're trying to insinuate there's jealousy here because he has a superstar-level teammate based on literally nothing. Meanwhile, KD is doing things like having Russ introduce him at his Oklahoma sports hall of fame induction. Sure seems like a guy who doesn't enjoy his best teammate...

Well, yeah, that's usually how this works. Free agents typically don't come out and commit to their team because then they lose any kind of leverage. LeBron's a free agent. Haven't heard him say he's coming back. Quick, someone sound the alarm!

Lamarcus Aldridge left Portland just last season after they had some decent playoff runs, some of these guys like a change of scenery and feel it can make them better players in the long run.

The Blazers made it out of the 1st round once in LMA's time there. By the end of last season, their third best player would be coming back from an achille's injury (also a FA), and their fourth best player had appeared to seriously regress... while also battling a ton of injuries. LaMarcus left that to go to a Spurs team that has Kawhi Leonard and is, well, the Spurs.

Meanwhile, Durant would be leaving a team with a top-10 level player. An incredibly promising 22-year-old center. And a pretty good supporting cast. A team that has been to the finals once, and the WCF three times. They've gone to the WCF every time they've been healthy, and even made it 2014 when Ibaka had that calf injury. The situations aren't comparable in the slightest.

Plus who wants to stay in the west with a 73 win team in the warriors?

Yeah, because the alternative is going to a conference to face a guy who's made the finals 6 straight years, and has two in their prime sidekicks doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The Thunder were 2 minutes away from beating that 73 win team. They literally took them to the brink.

And why do the Warriors winning 73 games THIS year factor into the future? Are the Warriors just going to keep getting better and better until they go undefeated? Unlikely. Its more likely that they come back down to Earth, for whatever reason.

Plus, where's he going to go? I keep seeing people throw out Boston, like it's some magical place where guys automatically win titles just for putting on the uniform. Hey, Boston won 48 games with a bunch of scrappy role players. Great! And they have the #3 pick? Swell! But superstar players in their prime don't leave the kind of situation KD is in for top 3 picks and Isaiah Thomas. Is there ANY team in the east that you can drop him on, and they're suddenly the favorite?

KD wants to be the "guy" , hes not in OKC. Very possible he bolts.

He IS the guy in OKC. He's the team's leading scorer and best player. Just because Russell handles the ball doesn't mean KD isn't the guy. It means Russ is the PG and he's doing what point guards do.

Sure, its "possible" he leaves. But not for any of the reasons you just laid out here.

Maybe a response that long was unnecessary, but I'm just getting so tired of these takes on Durant leaving that have no basis in reality and use terrible comparisons.

This isn't LeBron leaving Cleveland and Mo Williams for a superstar-laden Miami team. This isn't LaMarcus leaving a franchise in transition for the best franchise in ALL of sports over the last 20 years. This isn't Shaq feeling slighted by a "lowball" offer in Orlando and fleeing to LA for a ton of money and a movie career. Hell, this isn't even LeBron leaving Miami for a younger version of his super team, with potential storybook ending to boot.

I've yet to see a legitimate reason for Durant to leave.

There's not.

And I have no idea what the hell KD would see in Boston. Picks, assets, coaching? KD is turning 28. Boston is likely 2-3 years away from serious contention.

OKC needs about one SG that can hit a damn open shot, and a good role-player who can also hit an open three, from owning the West.

That is a much easier project for KD than joining another team in flux with all the variables big FA signings cause.

Thunder showed their inadequacies when they were up 3-1 to GS and lost the series. I think a lot of people are overrating them in here. For one I do not believe they are a good TEAM, I believe they have Westbrook and Durant, and that's ALL that's made them good. Sure Adams, Kanter, Ibaka can be useful, but where's the rest of the team? Where's the bench? Where's the hardened veterans? Personally, if I was Durant, I'd be trying to get the hell out. As nasty as Westbrook is, he's a ball-hogging, dominant, hard-headed player, that seems to be more interested in getting his most of the time. Durant is not getting any younger, and routinely getting ousted every single year out of the playoffs (only making it to finals once), has got to be wearing on the guy.

What's stopping him from going to GS?

But Durant had as much to do with the bolded as anyone...

That's true, but when you don't have good backups / a good bench, what are you suppose to do? When your third option on the ball is Dion Waiters, what you are suppose to do? Exactly what they did, keep shooting because no one else on the team is going to be draining shots. Foye, Singler, Waiters, Roberson? Lol. Laughable.

Like I said they got a few good bigs around them, but every other part of the team is lacking.
