FIFY with the throwback

He’s played well at Center in terms of man to man defense. He’s contesting shots like he never has before and isn’t doing the fake defense then turn around for the rebound before the shot goes up thing.

To put his season into context he’s shooting 46.6% from the field and 37.7% from deep. He has weaknesses but a good to great team has enough players to fill the gap. What does this mean? Love needs a point guard who isn’t a sieve on defense. Kyrie rarely tried (he wasn’t woke yet), Rose is a low IQ defender (always lost) and Calderon is simply incapable the way Love is incapable of running with elite athletes and contesting while keeping a body on the giant he is defending. LeBron or Wade at that position helps Love and IT might not by the numbers but his effort and speed will be there even if his size puts him at a disadvantage (IT/TT combo might be a better pairing)

The bolded part has been pretty obvious to me watching the games. Unfortunately there's a whole lot of people here who pretty much completely ignore what is happening on the court when it comes to Love improving defensively.

Love has had problems in the past seasons at times and to be sure he isn't a match physically for a lot of the guys he faces up against. But there's a lot of his detractors who constantly push the fallacy that Love never defends, never contests, and only cares about getting his rebounds which is complete bullshit. It requires willful ignorance to pretend Love is worthless as some say on defense yet it has become an accepted part of the group-thinking about his game.

Why does Lue only play Love 29 mins a game? Surely can push him up to 33-34. Even when his jumper is white hot he still gets benched.

His per 36 numbers are crazy.

This always baffles me.
It always seems that Lue benches Love just as he's on god damn fire.

I wonder if they're a little more cautious with Love because of his history of injuries.

K-Love ranks 5th in the NBA in PER for small forwards who average 20+
minutes per game.

League average for PER is 15.

K-Love is currently at 23.86.

The 4 players ahead of him are Giannis, AD, Aldridge and Porzingis.

I can't find stats that have him at center.

Just put his PER in the centers list and see how he compares.

TT only started 5 games. So I’d imagine most of those stats were Love at center.

Cant let our bigs get worn down playing out of position so keeping Loves minutes down is probably a priority. I said all last year while Tristan can play center at times he cannot play a whole NBA season as a center. He just seemed so worn down last year in the playoffs compared to the year before where we atleast has Mosgov to eat minutes up.

Makes me feel more worried for love

If he seemed worn down, it certainly didn't show up in the numbers because they were better across the board in the postseason last year compared to 15-16.

This season here are Love's on/off stats per 48
ORTG/100: On: 113.8 off: 115.7 (-1.9)
DRTG/100: on 114.7 off: 107.0 (-7.7)
NetRtg/100: (-9.6)
Points scored: ON 1566 off: 997
Points allowed: On 1563 off: 941
EFG: On- 53.9% off-56.8%
Opponents EFG: On: 55.5% off: 50.2%
Off Reb%: On: 26.4% off:20.6%
Def Reb%: On: 75.4% off:71.7%

Let's not pretend his defensive frailties are a myth invented by irrational hate. What he does is improve our shooting and rebounding. Unfortunately his presence also improves the opponent's shooting

These numbers are really bad reflections of reality because the Cavs were so amazingly trash for the first 12 games that it skewed everything far from where they belong.

Love's D is a lot better than you give him credit for.

And you think Love wasn't a big part of that? You conveniently only want us to use the sample where he might have played decent?

Didn't see you discredit the stats that were posted in his favour either. He's been playing D better recently though but he's no juggernaut either. Will see if I can find his stats during this win streak alone
