Love's foot should be healed up just around the time he can be traded. Then he can play five to ten games to show he's "healthy."

Then, perhaps King James will request Love's services to provide 3 point showing and defensive rebounding; qualities the Lakers currently lack.

Let It Be So!

I wonder if that did happen what we could get for him from LA?

This thread has turned into hot take central with all the Love haters coming out in full force.

If it were a normal season on a competitive team Love would probably be playing through the toe problem. But since the Cavs are a complete dumpster fire I assume Love's surgery got the blessing of everyone from Gilbert and Altman right down to Love himself.

Take a few months off, get healthy, and gives the Cavs time to sort through the mess and establish their own identity which is currently non-existent.

Then when Love is ready to return he can integrate himself into the team on the floor instead of having all the mis-matched pieces trying to figure out how to play around Love's game, and when he rests they go back to having no identity.

It just makes too much sense.

And if there is any thought of trading him, why would you want to have him play through an injury -- which will depress the quality of his performance -- and then have surgery after the season? You'd be asking some other team to take a risk on a guy who just had surgery without seeing him play after he is recovered. It would be a significant question mark.

This way, he'll have the surgery, recover, and then be able to get fully back into the swing of playing. He'll have more trade value at that point than if we tried to trade him while he was still injured, or still needed surgery.

I still think love added to the young core would be effective. Trouble right now is zero harmony. We hoped to be competitive through a rebuild. Appears it will not be that way. Need to get rid of vets for assets whenever a fair trade comes along. All of the vets save tt will be desired for various reasons

Time to acknowledge how horrible the team's floor spacing has been since his injury. There have been a lot of complaints about the offense's lack of movement, but I expected this after Love went out. Spacing has always been Love's best intangible, and it's universally recognized among all NBA analysts. Osman's play especially has suffered; I always thought Osman had good synergy with LeBron and Love last season.

I think it's funny that some people here still think Love doesn't add wins to a team when he actually is healthy. People forget the Timberwolves went from 40 wins in his last season there to 16 after they acquired so-called Maple Jordan, who has since proven to be a bust given his expectations (Wiggins' season has been an absolute joke).

The Cavs certainly would have been more competitive with a healthy Love this season. But he wasn't healthy to start, and now that he's out completely, it's like the 2014-15 Timberwolves all over again. You go from a potential 40 win team to a 16 win team.

Absolutely. Pretty clear from the way teams pack the paint and we get so many shots blocked that no one fears this team from the perimeter.

People keep blaming Ceid and Sexton for not finishing when multiple defenders are waiting for them.

Losing Korver made things much worse instantly.

Especially with those TT and Nance Death lineups :chuckle:

To reiterate I really like Love but with the Millsap injury and the fact that he's a team option next year, I'd be on the phone with Denver to gauge their interest.

I'd be all for continuing the asset stockpiling by moving on from Love if the deal is right, and Denver might currently be our best trade partner. At worst we might be able to get a bidding war brewing for his services.

I agree; we need to move Love for someone who can stay healthy more than half the season.

I'll take a player in trade who does 75% of what Love does if he plays most of the season.

Milsap, Michael Porter Jr, and a 1st round pick for Love would be a good haul. I would want to try to move Milsap to a 3rd team because he is an expiring with the option. Maybe we take on money from the 3rd team and we get a better pick than Denver's 1st round.

What about Juancho Hernangonez in a deal? He is a good shooter that will be able to fulfill the spot up duty pretty well at the 4 spot.

Millsap should only be injured for 6-8 weeks and has a team option so I don't think they are going to move him unless someone takes back Plumlee or Barton with it.

I would trade Love for CJ McCollum straight up.

That might be scary (in a bad way), rookie /developing Sexton plus McColum and Clarkson would be Chuck City... Good luck for the other guys getting a shot...
