Look, Love might get traded this offseason. I'm hopeful it doesn't happen until next offseason since Beilein's system is perfect for a power forward who thinks the game like a point guard. Provided he sees the floor about 60 games, he has the opportunity to put up the efficient numbers close to what he put up most of his career. "Trading low" now benefits the team acquiring Love.
However, I survived the Kyrie Summer of Petulence. I know trade value isn't the only influence at work.
Kevin Love may want a trade, but I definitely need to see Koby Altman earn his stripes right now. I don't think Love is going full Kyrie. If Love needs to play himself into being more valued in the league, don't rush the trade. It was Love's choice to sign on for four years instead of a LeBron or Durant style player option deal. The cost of all that guaranteed cash is honoring the contract.
What doesn't make sense to me is all the posts sabotaging Love's existing value. Whether he plays for the Cavs this year or not, what's the point of taking shots at him as the Cavs look to get as much value back as possible? Claiming he is definitely damaged goods? Why? Claiming it's his fault the Timberwolves didn't make the playoffs *cough David Kahn cough* why?
I personally see this as Altman's biggest test. He has had some modest wins as a GM... but certainly hasn't made any defining moves.
