You know, it's time to open old wounds.

I, your average fan with no scouting department or resources, not being highly compensated for my acumen, shouldn't routinely get these draft picks right when the FO doesn't.

Haliburton, SGA, and Eason.

These were all guys I wanted. We passed and took significantly worse players. Like, miles worse.

When do we start to say Altman kinda sucks at his job?

I think Koby's team USA connections help to make a floor for his picks so they weren't going to be complete busts. The ceiling was more up to him and I don't think he really achieved it with most of his picks.

I also think those team USA connections are almost useless when drafting beyond the top 10 or so depending on year. If team USA has a guy on their team they are going to be highly recruited out of high school and the top tier of their draft class.

The other thing is those team USA connections or Koby himself failed to get one of our guy on the world cup team. Garland and Mobley would have benefitted from playing this summer, kind of like Haliburton did.

Garland was also kind of gifted to the Cavs by Griff trading down with the Hawks. I also think Rich Paul was trying to hide Garland just in case the AD trade didn't go through which benefited the Cavs because he allowed the Cavs to work him out late in the process. If Hunter and Garland were both on the board, I'm pretty sure Koby goes Hunter over Garland.

koby altmans cleveland cavaliers have two undersized guards with two undersized small forwards....to go with their number one player under contract for one more year.

and only one pick going forward for the rest of the decade...

They have three picks. Pick swaps do not forfeit the pick, just forfeit the control of where the pick is (Utah's slot or ours).

Altman sucks at first round drafting, he is very good at other aspects of his job, I wish there was a way Dan could give final draft say of the 1st round to someone else but keep Altman for his trades, free agency, 2nd round drafting and free agents. I know 1st round drafting is a big part of his job, but he has done a good job inn lots of aspects of his job, just not this one.

But then again, other than that, how was the play Mrs Lincoln?

being able to resign levert is big....huge...bcz caris is a proven playoff performer even playing out of position....but strus?...

hes average at best in the playoffs over 40 games

i believe that all this koby altman character will be remembered for after hes fired at the end of this season is kyrie irving for a 5 fut 9 inch guard with a bad back and lauri markennan and a lost half a decade for donovan mitchell....

its only a third of the season in and dm has arguably been playing with a hammy....but i dont think anyone is clamoring over the greatness of morey and maxey....whose just straight-out ballin right now....simply taking over the harden-less 76ers after being handed the keys....

so exaclty what has this koby altman character done for cleveland that is so great?....

that a self-admitted "average guy with no scouting department or resources" couldnt have done better?

Bro what? Strus has a better playoff record than Caris and I like both of these guys.

Caris has 14 career playoff games. Strus has 2 playoff runs (22, 23) that went longer. Strus has bad effeciency numbers, but he has also hit some huge shots. He has multiple series of good shooting and effeciency. Caris frankly does not have enough numbers one way or the other. He could be a better playoff player but we dont know, the sample is not there. Either way, they play different roles so its not a one or the other situation

Max Strus played in more playoff games in each of the last two seasons, deep, than Caris LeVert has in his entire career.

The old "proven playoff performer" whose team has lost in the first round all three times in 5 games, 4 games, and 5 games again.

I mean...he's been ok. But he hasn't been the difference between winning and losing.

Amazing that this thread has been dead for over a month.

Guess there’s not much to bitch about.

As Abraham Lincoln said of US Grant he’d like to give some whisky to his other generals.

What an offseason this badass had. Serious upgrade.

The man deserves some love from Cavaliers fans. He’s got a twelve deep roster of real players.

I think he refilled the cabinet and depth much more competently than we could anticipate and if Bates hits in the next couple years, we’ll feel the draft picks we let exit the building in the Mitchell trade much less. However, I think he still has some work to reshuffle the core parts into an arrangement that best allocates the limited salary cap.

The good news is he doesn’t have to perform a resuscitation and I think we’re a couple chess moves and a couple player developments (Mobley jump shot or Garland lowering turnovers) away from perennial contender status with a very homegrown and sustainable structure. I think I’d only trade OKC‘s roster situation for ours over next 5-10 years and I still don’t mind our odds (and Jazz would come next on that list perhaps… and let’s be real that’s a roster attributable to Kobe as well)
