Koby Altman

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the biggest upside of the Drummond acquisition is that it, in my opinion, will prove to have significantly raised Tristan's value around the league. None of these fucking GMs were willing to give up anything to acquire TT before the deadline and it seems like everyone was expecting for the Cavs to just buy him out. Everybody tried to call his bluff, but it seems like Koby said, "fuck that, hold my beer." The Drummond trade forced TT into his best role, which has always been energy big off the bench. Now, he's entering games and just destroying, it's great to see and we have his bird rights. So teams are still going to have to come off a 1st rd pick if they want to acquire him, assuming he stays healthy and keeps balling, the most likely scenario is that he leaves via sign and trade. This is excellent asset management. Props, Koby Altman.

Now if we can raise Drummond's value and then flip next trade deadline, then we're doing some real shit. Jury is still out but maybe Koby is not that bad or maybe I'm reaching here, I'm not quite sure.

Watching what TT is doing right now, it is mindblowing no contender thought he could help them. I mean save money next year and get an NBA champion who is really good to play for you.

The problem is that no one thinks TT is a defender. He is, he just can't solve bad team defense. With no secondary help, he will look bad. IN a good defensive system he is still great. Watching him and Larry dominate fools really sends that message.

From, what I understand, the Rockets and Cavs were in deep talk but the Rockets didnt have anything to offer to the Cavs....Especially, after giving their #1 pick to the Nuggets in that four team trade...

The Cavs or Rockets should have found a third team...imo

yeah the salary number was just too high.

I feel many here are not really too pleased in Koby but I personally like him and I think he is a smart guy and he loves basketball with passion. I wanted Sexton, KPJ, and Okoro - wished we got Clarke though.

This is last year but Goldman Sachs had a talk with Koby. Here’s some minutes as it is almost 20 min long.

- He believes not just talent, having positive attitude, great work ethic, and wanting to play here are important traits
- It was very tough to be the GM at first because he was appointed when right before draft and free agency with Kyrie wanted out
- Originally in real estate business but loves the game of basketball and actually went helping freshman basketball during his real estate job
- Obsessed with player development and not just basketball but giving player routines for these young 19 yr olds and giving them rhythms for nutritions (where could not believe one guy was at team bus waiting for Wendy’s by Uber. Koby actually talked to him afterwards wanting him to get in nutrition and sleep plan)
- Analytics and data is very important now where one of the data guys now sits behind the coaching staff
- David Griffin and the #2 guy left and was more like he had to step in and the building came to Koby for his leadership to take over
- Definitely fun times with 4 yr run and winning championship but creating your own culture to build is definitely great
- Compared to championship run, believes in patience and players wanting to develop and grow.
- Koby talks about how valuable Lindsey is to the coaching staff and franchise. Such great communicator and builds relations with the young players.

I was very down on him but bringing Drummond in for a 2nd rounder + drafting Okoro has improved my view on him, I'm not sold on the choice of coach though.

We don't know if Altman cold have traded him..we may hear about it later(as we usually do) or we may not.

Tristan leaving for free, Altman sucks!

Worstest GM in the league

If,you read what I wrote you would know the Cavs did try to trade him but Houston was the only team to wanted him at the time and that organization didn't have no assets to spare.

On top of that,if I'm a team, why would I trade for him and give up assets when I could wait til free agency to get him.

The way I see it, Altman acquired Drummond for next to nothing. He also extracted a 2nd round pick from Milwaukee for removing the protections on the 1st round pick they owe us, both of which benefit the Cavaliers. He also won the Kyrie trade as we have Sexton to show for it, while the Celtics have nothing. Those moves more than offset whatever 2nd round pick he maybe could have gotten for Tristan at the deadline.

Maybe we should merge the Koby threads but I’ve been a huge fan of him since the beginning. He mentions number of times that he believes in patience and players want to develop together and grow. I believe he is building the right culture here and we are seeing the players that he is bringing in. Looking forward to when we are fully healthy as we continue to develop this team.

Some of these aged spectacularly.

My favorite though is: "I was very down on him but bringing Drummond in for a 2nd rounder + drafting Okoro has improved my view on him"

It is way too early to assess Okoro.

Drummond may yet bring something back.

But, the move for him, people should get used to scrounging for scraps and long-shot gambles on people.

It is the lot of an irrelevant small market team with no true franchise player.
