L Cleveland 100 Boston 101 - Preseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Cleveland @ Boston - Preseason

Buike turns it over up one with 22 seconds to go.

Re: Cleveland @ Boston - Preseason

Celtics win. Cleveland collapsed under the press and showed a lack of ballhandling and even willingness to go get the ball (passive, hesistant play).

Re: Cleveland @ Boston - Preseason

Well Ricky Davis looked good leading the game with 15 tommy points.

Re: Cleveland @ Boston - Preseason

Buike looked good with 9 and had some steals and stuff hopefully he finds a way on. LeBron looked impressive as usual can't wait for the season to begin NAWLINS IS DEAD MEAT!

Re: Cleveland @ Boston - Preseason

Quick thoughts on the game, cause I wanna go watch baseball:

almost 80 total free throws - WTF?

clearly, Drew is an integral part of our team.

defensively, we have to get better at defending the quick slant to the hoop - many passes over the defender for an easy lay-up.

Luke pumped in 6 straight points in the 4th, however, I am skeptical of his game - he did it against their 3rd team, and he was the clear Cav leader. He seems to play better when he is the focalpoint - when is the the last option, his game declines. His last attempt to win the game was sloppy at best.

Were the officials trying to make a statement about 3 seconds in the lane?

It is also clear to me that if Z goes down, we are in trouble.

Little Z got no play, unless I missed it...

More happy we got Damon Jones over Dan Dickau - Damon will keep LeBron smiling - Dickau looked like a midget.

Scrubs panic, crash in the last 5 minutes. Zendon blows five possesions during that stretch, Ekezie 2, Sasha fouls out trying to (unsuccessfully) stop Justin Reed. Buike has three very dumb turnovers to give Boston a shot. Credit Goes to Reed and Greene as Boston was shut down after Jahidi White left the game, until Reed and O Greene came in, After that it was all Boston.

Also Jahidi White was pretty much useless on the floor.

Ekezie was the best of the three, but that's like saying Moe is a better basketball player than Larry and Shemp.

Don't see how any of these three make the squad.

I will say one thing about Luke, unlike Sasha or Wilks, Luke can handle pressure and bring the ball up (noticed this over the summer league and earlier preseason games). Towards the end, people became scared, didn't move for the ball and if they got it, dribbled like cowards. It's just a preseason game but I got angry watching that. For all of Sasha's athleticism and first step, why didn't he even move an inch to receive the inbounds passes? Or why was Wilks so terrible at the end himself? I question Luke like everybody else but nights like tonight show me he handles the ball better than other guys on this team (Sasha, Wilks).

Re: Cleveland @ Boston - Preseason

4th quarter was basically garbage time. The Cavs has camp invitees and the Celtics had their end of the bench in.
Luke and Sasha have been disappointing in preseason for the most part. I like both these guys and think they have talent and potential but they haven't provided any consistent play on the floor.

I don't know how the Cavs choose among the 3 backup C's brought to camp. Hamilton had some flashes earlier in the preseason but now it's almost choosing from the lesser of 3 evils. White has been very disappointing, especially showing up in poor condition. The spot was probably his but it seems doubtful now. You have to wonder if another C will be brought in to fill that spot.

Cavs have to cut down on turnovers. They're still learning each other and a new system but the TO's are a little out of control.

Re: Cleveland @ Boston - Preseason

I've noticed Sasha is a drifter and flows but Luke is more active. Sasha can drive and hit the jumper but he tends to pick his moments and sometimes doesn't even really want the ball. In contrast, Luke can park on the perimeter looking for jumpers, but prefers being active and on-the-ball (like ChicagoCavFan noted).

I've always said from day 1 that I'd rather see Marty stick with our team and be our 3rd center. He hasn't played great but the invited centers haven't really played any better themselves. So..

I agree. Sasha seemed very tentative and seemed happier to dump it off to somebody else when he played in the first unit. Rather than drive and kick to Z, he would just dump to Z and then stay at the wing. Sasha can't guard very well.

Luke was more aggressive and got swated on the fast break pass from Lebron but he showed me more than Sasha today. But yeah, Luke was playing best in the scrubs part of the game.

No Drew, no Larry, we needed both. Season is only a week away, get healthy guys.

I agree Marty Should be third, but who is going to be second? Alan Henderson is a passable power forward, but at center he will not pass muster agianst detroit, Miami and now the Bucks. We need a legit big to rebound, absorb the foul and play swat inside (the role Diop was supposed to bring but never did).

I agree with Narl that we may see an outside big, given the recent lame play of the three stooges..

I have to say, I was quite impressed with my first taste of live Cavaliers action.

Coach Brown's defensive system is very very good. There is a lot of help, a lot of movement, a lot of defensive switching and trapping. He has been hammering his defensive system all during camp and its showing. This Cavs played better defense than any Cavs team that I've seen since Fratello. The only problem was that our best defensive wing player in Larry Hughes was missing so we had two bench guys in Sasha Pavlovic and Luke Jackson out there and they got toasted repeatedly by Pierce and Ricky. Everyone needs to remember, in the first meeting between the Celtics and Cavaliers, Hughes completely shutdown Ricky D to the tune of 8 points in 27 minutes. If you plug Hughes in there, his man to man defense is tad overrated, but still very good, bring Newble and eventually Varejao back off of the bench and our defensive will be very good. Those are our three best defensive players easily and will make a big difference.

All in all, considering the fact we were missing two starters and two other rotation guys, I was pretty pleased with the Cavaliers, especially the new defensive system.

0 blocks? crappy.

LeBron 16 points? crappy.

Backup centers? crappy.

Schmeh. It's preseason. Move along, sir.
