He's Tristan Kardashian's replacement.

Remember when we (I included) used to wank silly over the gibson/pavlovic/LeBron/varejao/hickson super lineup of the future? Or how we had pro-Dion Waiters fan clubs?

Time to stop hyping these averagely talented players because they're young. If nothing stands out in their skillset at a young age they have nothing to build on and there's a good chance nothing ever will. Don't want to go through another awful rebuild.

Nance is a good piece to have but I can't even project him as reaching the levels of a 2016 TT.

2018 TT couldn't even be projected to reach the level of 2016 TT...

The shirt Larry wore while being interviewed at a summer league game was sweet!

As the roster currently stands...

It's possible LNJ could start at the 5 with Kevin, but with Tristan and Zizic on the squad (both whom should exclusively play at the 5), he will probably be one of the first subs.

Larry will likely see more time as the backup "4" than last year (which was virtually nil on the Cavs), but that's only semantics. When he takes that position (4), he will need to be sharing the front-court with Z.

Generally, I believe he can be paired with Love, Z, Cedi, Preston (when he's called up) in the front-court (I suspect Cedi will see more time at the 2/3 than the 4, though they may attempt to use him in a pseudo LeBron/Jeff 4 role at times, especially when the opposing team goes small...).

I hope to never see the Nance & Tristan combo. Please... :chuckle:

In any case, the man is gonna get minutes and I'm looking forward to his play! I expect him to expand his range and knock down some threes this year.

During the interview Nance suggested that he might hoist around 50 3 pt shots next season. What a weapon that could become for Larry as his role increases. If that were to happen he and Zizic could definitely play big minutes together.

His shot wasn't terrible this year. Needs work for sure. Just camp in that corner. It's ok to shoot. No goals but getting better.

I agree, on defense I think he can play the 4/5, he can switch and seems to have the IQ to play bigger Cs. The issue for him is on offense unless he can develop a shot. He has great hands and can run the break, but right now he is at a level you have to have someone who can shoot opposite him for it to work. I don’t think he can play with any other bigs on this team outside of Love. We need to add back a Frye or a wing who can play the 4 and shoot.

The guys left in free agency that would compliment Nance and fit into our PF shot is real thin from lists of available players that I've looked at. Frye might be the best bet because we know he is a good character guy and will help the younger guys develop. If you want to try to get a guy with upside, it might have to be Noah Vonleh. If he can improve his 3 point shot, he would be a real nice pairing with Nance. I said last night we might have to invite a guy like Alex Poythress to training camp.

question is if Frye rather go to a contender. But I think he would be a nice addition

I think we will have to wait to add pretty much any decent unrestricted free agent at this point. Most are looking at vets minimum and are just waiting to see what the best situation is for them.

Young guys I want to add like Shabazz Napier and Noah Vonleh might just want to secure minutes in a rotation now so they can make sure they can get a better contract in the future.

Channing Frye would be awesome to have back. But, I doubt it, unless he feels a strong connection to Lue/Cleveland.

I posted it in another thread, but Larry's numbers on shots between 16 and 23 feet are really good. I think he can be devastating in the pick and roll/pop/slip and I think he's got the IQ to roll/pop/slip appropriately.

Just when he was with the Cavs, LNJ shot about 20% of his attempts from 10 to 23 feet and converted on over 50% of them. Actually over the course of his career from 16-23 feet he's shot .420.

Additionally he seems to have good weakside defensive instincts, meaning he could play some five.

The only question I have with him at the five is durability.

I'm concerned about Larry's long-term outlook, personally. In today's NBA, he obviously makes the most sense as a 5, but he really gets bodied up by bigger centers.

Unless he can really develop a consistent jump-shot, playing him at PF really shrinks the court. And then, obviously the health issues are a concern. There isn't really a definitive fix to his health issues, and it has plagued him throughout his career. It's difficult to know how much stamina he is going to have on a night to night basis.

I feel like Nance is a great rotational big in the second unit that provides energy. And if he's rolling, you let him get that 30 mins a night. If it's not looking promising, you go back to Zizic for starters minutes.

I do think Zizic needs to be given 25 mins a night to see how he looks on a night to night basis. I'd prefer Zizic starts next to Love to start the season. Have Nance sub in for Zizic and get minutes next to Love until Love gets subbed out.

I want that T-Shirt. The kind of thing I'd wear when I'm not in Cleveland to let people know.

Shirt proceeds go to support Crohn's. Men's looks out of stock right now.

Athletes vs. Crohn's was founded in January of 2017 by Larry Nance Jr. and Noah Weber. The mission of AVC is to raise awareness of Crohn’s and colitis in the adolescent population and help children realize their athletic potential despite being diagnosed with a chronic illness.

Both Larry and Noah were diagnosed with Crohn's disease during their adolescent years, and sought out athletes who reached their personal and athletic potential. Together they hope to connect young people afflicted with Crohn's and colitis to athletes to inspire and mentor.
