I'm starting a new thread to discuss LeBron's Free Agency because the last thread got off-track, and has been closed.

Also sent a few posters [who were responsible for things getting off track] on vacation.

Let's try to stay somewhat on topic, since this journey may take awhile...

Re: LeBron Free Agency (Rumors, Spin, Discussion)

I haven't been online for over a day. Will someone give me a short recap of any relevant news that has come out...

Thanks!

someone in the last thread said that he thinks Cleveland is (paraphrasing) "guilt-tripping LeBron into staying...possibly ruining his career"...

:thumbdown

I think it's important for everyone posting to understand that, ultimately, LeBron James makes LeBron James' decisions. I challenge anyone who disagrees to explain otherwise. of all the ridiculous things said on this forum over the past week, that was pretty high up there.

I feel like Cleveland is guilt tripping Lebron into staying and possibly ruining his career in the process. As KG said during the Cavs series, sometimes loyalty can be a bad thing. The Cavs aren't getting it done anytime soon with or without Lebron. Hate on haters.

I was writing this before the last thread got closed. I think it's still relevant. If not, feel free to delete it.

It's not about being haters. Many of us have watched the NBA for years, decades even (for me it started in late 1970s). We know realistic assessments of teams as opposed to ones that are reactionary, uninformed, and/or just absurd. One of the biggest myths left-over from Lebron's early days is that he has no team around him. It's not true anymore. Sure, we'd all like upgrades, but stop minimizing our success just because we've lost to two tough teams.

And as far as loyalty, it's too bad it's been trumped by big money. It's one of the downfalls of modern sports. Why does everyone worship guys like Cal Ripken, Jeter, Kirby, and now guys like Mauer. Yes, they were awesome players but it's added by what they did for their teams/cities in the modern era of big money/big market. And that's all about loyalty.

Playing to LBJ's loyalty is not guilt-tripping. Did you watch that video? That's real Cleveland folks who have an emotional investment in LBJ. That's telling it like it is and speaking to his sense of loyalty. From my perspective, leaving for greener pastures where no championships are guaranteed has more likelihood of ruining his career than sticking with a winner, in a place he's comfortable in and with folks he trusts (assuming this last part is true, which I believe it is).

Of course loyalty can be a bad thing, as in KG in Minnesota. But that's comparing apples to oranges. Look at the last 5 years and what our organization/team has done. [Many have compared LBJ's situation to Wade's, but that doesn't get all the media hype. His organization has done so little to support him over the past 4 years with the promise of greener pastures once 2010 comes along. At this point, they have what, 3 guys on their roster? Way to build a winner.]

It's getting old these arguments. Please think before you post and if you're going to state your opinions, have some way to back that up. Otherwise, we're just bogging down a good thread with hundreds of weak posts.

Everyone still waiting on LeBron...decision wont come till wed or thurs.

Toronto like our offer for a S&T but Bosh doesn't want to play in Cleveland according to some sources.

There was a post by Wine and Gold about a potential Bosh trade if/when LeBron signs. It was posted right around 11 am this morning.

Can't really say this is a source that is totally in the know on this subject, but he tells me that in talking to a guy within the Raptors org., that they are disgusted with Bosh. He wants hius cake and wants to eat it too. He wants to dictate everything, but the fact is they are trying to force his hand and accept the trade to CLE. Lebron should talk to Bosh, basically ..and get this deal done.

But., my guess from trying to piece the puzzle together ...a good chance exists that when Lebron decides and makes his announcement, it could be coupled with Bosh ending up alongside him here in CLE.

If not, then Bosh can accept far less, and go elsewhere.

We'll see how it ultimately plays out.

Really now, everyone is in wait and see mode. Every major pitch has been made, and now all the free agents are pondering over what to do. As soon as someone gives their commitment to a city, be it Lebron, D-Wade, or someone else, it will set off a chain reaction of signings and trades.

Now the question is, who will be the first, and when?

Windhorst reported that LBJ may not announce a decision until after the Nike/Akron 3-day basketball camp is over on Wednesday. Some have read into that in both ways. The longer that LBJ waits, the less time he will have to recruit other free agents, of course. Still hope that Bosh can be convinced to come Cleveland but nothing solid.

Pretty quiet overall.

I will try my best the other thread was 160 pages plus.

LBJ met with Cavs and Bulls on Saturday. LB met by 100's of Cavs fans who threw powder in the air and formed a 'fan tunnel'. Meeting with Cavs went 'well' according to Grant. Showed him a custom Cartoon in the style of Family guy that included teammates as characters that also referenced inside locker room jokes.

Also shown http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/morethanaplayer_splash_100630.html.

Met with Bulls for nearly three hours. No real details as to how that meeting went.

Bosh - Speculation that Cavs could be working on sign and trade with Toronto, but that Bosh 'may' not want to play here. Nothing confirmed by anyone with juice that Bosh doesn't want to play here, just speculation at this point.

Paul - Rumored that he really wants out of NO and that he would absolutely play here with LB now that Scott has been hired, but team president reaffrirmed that he will be a member of NO this year.

Indications are that LB won't make a decision until Wednesday, after his Nike Camp.

There are a bunch of other things out there, but the above is pretty much the only things that matter lol.

I agree with you. I don't feel the Cavs are guilt-tripping LeBron at all. If anything, it shows how much the organization and community really know him. He has grown up before our eyes and to look past any of that would be foolish.

One more thing I wanted to add that I believe gets overlooked. How many teams in the past 30 years have won a championship w/o a strong bench? How does Miami, Chicago, NY and NJ expect to convince guys who really want to win a championship to come in when they have only 3 or 4 guys on contract. It seems like a big leap to expect to fill up that roster with a cohesive team that can have the depth, experience, and yes chemistry, necessary to make the run.

For those of you who saw the 10 minute video the Cavs made for LeBron (not the cartoon one), it will take some serious guts for LeBron to leave. And if he does leave, I would assume that he had to be set in his ways to leave for a while. The video brought a tear to my eye because it essentially recapped how great the past 7 years have been despite not winning a title. For as much as LeBron says he is going to "do what is best for his family," he has to understand that the entire state of Ohio is LeBron's family. As one of the guys said in the vid, blood is thicker than water and we will love and respect LeBron more than another other fanbase in the world.

FYI, link to the vid I'm talking about...

Lakers had a questionable bench, and the Pistons 04 team didn't have a bench at all.

Yeah, a bench is needed. In fact a good overall team is needed. We see it all the time, it's not just about the stars.

Time, and time again the Fisher's, Horry's, Kerr's, etc, are known to have big impacts on their teams going on to win a title.

Cavs got the role players, they just need that one sick kick to go along with LB to make them an instant championship caliber team.

These other teams were terrible for a reason. Lebron can't forget that.

Great point. For Christ's sakes, Miami only has TWO players under contract currently and in order to sign Wade and two other max players, they would have to trade Beasley. Chicago only has 5 players under contract and would have to trade Gibson and Johnson in order to get two max players. Granted, these teams would be dominant within a few years once the holes in the roster are filled up, but they will not be able to win a title right away. Even though people say that our roster is weak, we still won 60+ games with it for the past two seasons. We are on the cusp of being right there and LeBron obvioulsy understands this.
