ugh.

Look.

I understand that there are people on this very forum that have gone through very different life experiences than me.

There is no "but" to that. I'm some idiot that grew up in the 'burbs of Akron-Canton, I had a good family life and was in a very warm, welcoming community.

But there's something about this entire clip that rubs me the wrong way.
I agree. Ill make sure i dont miss an episode of that shitfest. I see its family friendly as well. Classy Lebron.

I'm all for one attempting to expand their careers, but I cannot say I'm a fan.

He has every right to create it, speak his peace and do whatever he wants. This is a free country. There is no debate on that topic.

But there's no interest to me in any of these conversations.

The Stewart line about "catholic schools being the most white part of white america"

Trust me. There's way more "white" areas of "white america". Gated communities, Boarding Schools, Ivy League Colleges.

Those to me are the whitest places on earth.

I saw some of the rest of it after Hard Knocks last night and this clip is barely the half of it, if it doesn't rub the right way with you, in terms of the other issues he gets into there that he's spoken about before.

Everything he says here about those issues with "fitting in" are almost verbatim things he's said before. He said almost the same thing about that in regards to the jersey stuff. [link to relevant page of his book with Buzz Bissinger.]

I have absolutely seen that type of concern noted by people with respect to "private school recruiting."

The irony is that "family man"/"family friendly"/non-sarcastically "Classy LeBron" is a very new phenomenon, like 2013ish new.

I don't think it can be understated how much flack he had gotten from neutral-to-anti-LBJ people for, for instance, not having married Savannah yet until then, despite having 2 kids with her at the time.

Actually someone told me that the full clip details things a lot better. Clickbait media culture is a bitch.

I don't know. I wish him success and everything possible really. Sometimes things are not "for" people.

If this brings someone enlightenment, happiness and the like? I would be happy with that.

I just feel the fact that there may be "whiter" institutions than catholic schools isn't really what irritates you and I'm not sure what it really is

The dude's just overly dramatic, especially where LeBron is concerned.

I'm pretty sure that catholic private schools such as the one LeBron went to go right along with the things you list here.

Haven't seen the clip, so maybe there was context missing.

I went to a public high school that was about 90-95% caucasian.

I teach at a catholic school that is about 60-65% caucasian.

Now your prep academies that cost 30k a year...that is pretty damn white.

When I watched the clip, I thought this was pretty clearly implied. He's talking about the private schools with a tuition that is right in line with colleges.

Ugh...assuming that's the case (again, I'll watch the clip when I get a minute), that's just really lazy on the speaker's part.

The vast majority of those prep academies (for lack of a better term) aren't even "officially" Catholic. The ones that are have a very loose affiliation with the Cleveland Catholic Diocese.

Most Diocesan schools keep their tuition close to each other and give enough financial aid so that it can be affordable to middle class families (it's still a heavy financial burden, much more affordable than the prep academies). The tuition for a good chunk of Diocesan schools is around half what these prep academies cost. It's really 2 separate worlds they are chunking together.

I certainly believe that discussing race in education are important conversations to have (plus a lot of important scholarly research is done on the subject, too). And I can see why if you come from an impoverished neighborhood, all private/tuition based schools might bleed together. But if you want to discuss them, make sure you know what you are talking about.

LOL @ Shitlock getting referenced here.

No place has LeBron made more of a fool of himself than the 2011 NBA Finals. No place.

I thought the first episode of his new show was actually pretty awesome. He was honest about the preconceptions he had about white people and then how that attitude changed as he was exposed to them. I thought there were a lot of interesting discussions throughout the episode. I damn for sure didn’t agree with everything that was said but it felt like the speakers were speaking about their genuine beliefs on some difficult subjects which alone made the episode very entertaining.
