LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Boxers and MMA Fighters call themselves the GOAT all the time, it’s a completely different mentality and sport, you need to believe you’re the greatest when you’re locked inside a cage against the best fighters in the world who are trying to physically dismantle you.

When did you hear an NFL or NBA player call himself the GOAT? that’s for others to talk about you just never say that even if you believe it, I’m sure MJ and Brady believe they’re the GOATs but they’ll never say it out loud, it classless and self centered.
Michael Jordan is one of the most arrogant athletes in the history of sports. Using him as an example of class and as a counter to the "arrogant and self-centered" LeBron is silly.

Oh come on guys, Muhammad Ali was a thing. LeBron is him but not funny.

Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest cultural/political figures in the history of sports. He did way out there, truly risky shit, joining the Nation of Islam, changing his name when that just wasn't done, making completely uncompromising arguments on race in a segregated America, and perhaps most of all, refusing the draft publicly for principled reasons. He would have had a totally cushy year or two in the military, they might even have let him fight, he challenged the draft on principle and paid a major price. That was really noble. Now not all the stuff he did was so great; the NOI was a pretty shady organization and they had e.g. Muhammad denounce Malcolm X when Malcolm broke from the NOI because he realized what a messed-up ideology they had. But Ali was truly a lion who showed courage that today's athletes can't imagine. Doesn't compare to Lebron producing some gassy talk-fest on HBO, that doesn't even register on the Muhammad Ali scale.

Plus Ali had charisma and humor that was off the charts, Lebron is more kind of petulant and self-righteous.

Dude is a basketball genius who works his ass off though and I'll take his public persona over Jordan. But comparing him to Ali? No, just no.

Not going to disagree with everything you said, but to fair, LeBron has been vociferous in his denunciation of the President and has done wonders for the underprivileged children of the Akron community. Opening a school is a major socioeconomic achievement for any athlete.

I certainly wouldn't argue that LeBron has been as big for political activism as Ali, but he's put his money where his mouth is more than most other athletes and has certainly done more than "gassy talk-fests".

I thought the school was funded by his foundation which has donors and tax payers? Denouncing the president is the easiest thing to do.
What solutions has be provided? Didn't hollywood learn last election cycle that their opinions don't matter to middle america?
Lebron is right where he belongs. He is the greatest basketball player. He's also arrogant and I don't really care.

MJ, Kareem, Brady never called themselves the GOAT.... it’s such a bad idea, he should really consult a PR person before he does these type of shows.

“I beat GS” “I’m the greatest player ever”... it’s really cringey stuff, It’s Always me me me, you forgot about Kyrie that averaged 27 and hit the greatest shot in NBA history? or teammates like JR Smith that hit back to back 3s to keep us in the game?

How about stop talking about how amazing you are for one second and talk about them for a change?

There’s a reason Kyrie wanted I you win it’s Lebron you lose its you no matter what

When's the last time Kyrie got blame for losing the 2017 Finals? Or Kevin Love? Lebron almost always gets the blame by the talking heads. They talk about his "finals record" constantly. You're peddling a false narrative when you say that LeBron never gets the blame when he loses.

My post had nothing to do with alis politics, I was talking about his ego.

Which LeBron has but isn't funny.

Except Hollywood made little noise last election, compared to say 2004. LeBron is a populist himself and not a pragmatic person.

LOL at the Lebron-less Lakers losing at home to the Knicks. They are 1-4 since he went down. Still waiting for that Lakers fan @GTL to come back on here and lecture us all about how awesome the "young core" is and how he wouldn't trade any of them for Anthony Davis.

What is it with Lebron getting on suck-ass teams? He must be some kind of masochist. This team switch he had every opportunity to go to an actually good team but he picked the Lakers because he wanted more HBO vanity programs where he gasses on about politics with his buddies? A shorter drive to the studio or something? After our front office shitshow I wouldn't really have blamed him so much for trading in Cleveland in order to win somewhere else and avoid carrying all the burden into his late 30s, but guess what...he's right back in that same situation.

This is an interesting point and something I've been thinking about this season. I think Lebron really cost himself more championships by being impatient and constantly worried about his brand. What I mean by that is this: had he stuck around in two different situations in his career, or made different choices not based on his image, I think he could have won more.

He probably left Miami too soon. I have no doubt that Riley would have continued to add to their roster and make the team better. They probably could have won another title there had LeBron committed there for a few more years. Dont get me wrong, as a Cavs fan I couldn't be happier that he came back. But I think he made that choice mostly to repair his image and improve his legacy by winning one for Cleveland.

Then he leaves here for LA, which also feels like it was a bit impatient and also based on his brand. As you pointed out, maybe moving on from the Cavs was the right move. But either way, he could have stayed and re-tooled in Cleveland by committing; we all know he cost himself star teammates by not committing. Or he could have gone somewhere with a better team around him to win more. But in LA he gets to be Mr Hollywood and take over the media market there. But the road to a title there is not much better than here with Cleveland and hes really banking on the Laker lore to get more help there. He could have either taken another crack at winning the East or picked a better west coast team.

But we see now by some of his actions and strange comments that his priorities can be a little out of whack. His constant social media presence, his embrace of a city in a temporary way (Cleveland or nowhere shirts when he was here; Dodgers hats now that he is in LA). He professed his love for Cle then bashed it later by saying "no one wanted to come to Cle", the whole "more than an athlete" thing; like dude, we get it - you want to be a leader off the court and impact social change and that's a really noble thing. But everybody respects what you do for the community and so forth, you don't have to try so hard. And you can't just say whatever you want whenever you want, like comparing NFL owners to slave owners or declaring yourself goat. All of your shows with you making your points have nobody to counter you it's just a bunch of your friends agreeing with everything you say. It just makes me wonder if his decision-making when it came to basketball couldn't have been better had he not been thinking about other things in terms of his image and making choices based on that. Seems to be the one flaw in an otherwise spotless resume when it comes to his understanding of the game and how to win.

If you think about Kobe or Jordan, and how many titles they won, it seems somewhat logical to draw the conclusion that staying the course with one team and being obsessed with only winning increases your chances of more titles. I think LeBron jumped around too much. I mean, look at Shaq. Same thing. Would have won more if he didn't bounce around so much.

Lakers should trade the following. Ingram, Ball, KCP, Hart and Kuz for Davis.

Having peak Shaq, arguably the GOAT peak, helps when it comes to winning rings. Kobe only won 2 rings in 12 Shaq-less seasons.

Yeah, said it in the other thread, the Lakers young players are absolutely tanking their value. LeBron makes them a little bit better, but they're not cornerstones like some people and all of LA may think. Lonzo is a scrub. Flat the fuck out. Ingram is trending that way.

He knew what he was getting himself into, just didn't care. Lakers supporting cast is better than last years Cavs scrubs but it ain't by much . . .
