Lighty hopes to be drafted by Cleveland

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really haven't been impressed by Lighty this year. If he played up to his ability and with smarts, OSU would be the clear favorites, but he has had long stretches of very questionable play this season.

Not interested in him unless it's way late in the 2nd round or as an undrafted pick up.

no offense guys but a light built 6'5 SF is not going to help in moving this team forward

somebody gets it...remember when everyone wanted ron lewis and jj sullinger?

I highly doubt any 2nd round pick is going to have a big impact on moving this team forward, especially in a weak draft.

You might as well draft a kid who looks like he's going to turn out to be a solid pro (both on & off the court) and who wants to be here.

To be perfectly honest, outside of the local ties, how is Lighty any different than Alonzo Gee?

Same build, almost the same age, and almost an identical game. Guys with above average athleticism who aren't good ball handlers or shooters are pretty much a dime a dozen.

Gee went to Alabama and Lighty went to OSU. Gee went undrafted and Lighty is expected to go in the 2nd.

It was a rhetorical question.

I know what the literal differences are between Gee and Lighty lol.

Danny Green didn't exactly work out the first time..

I know what your saying about lighty becoming a pro, and maybe a solid one, but not here, theres not enough playing time for him to reach his highest potential on this team esp when the cavs have the potential to draft a more valuable rookie to develop (barnes, irving) plus we still have to give eyenga, harris, sessions and gibson consistent PT at the backcourt spots for them to develop. when players get injured of course we need to have some backup that has the ability to step up when needed, but i highly doubt lighty is the man to take, especially when there is more taller and bigger players that might be available in the 2nd round plus do you really want to trust a short light player to be the man coming off the bench when one of our main players goes down? its a big gamble might as well find someone whos more suitable for the role (bigger, stronger, etc.)

however over time my opinion might be changed pending on how he performs during draft camps and summer leagues

Lighty projects- by all accounts- as a glue guy. And a glue guy is absolutely worth taking in the second round. There's two homer OSU picks that could possibly make sense in the 2nd round for the Cavs and they're him and Diebler.

Both could be good role players in the NBA. I feel like if Diebler doesn't get drafted, he'll end up on a team. If guys like John Paxson, Fred Hoiberg and Kyle Korver can find a spot in the NBA, I don't see why Diebler can't. In fact...if Diebler's there for the Cavs second 2nd rounder I'd take him without blinking.

It's not often that I enjoy your posts :) but this is an exception.

With the first 2nd round pick? Probably not. But with OKC's 2nd round pick, I would be quite happy to get a guy like David Lighty. There isn't one thing that he is great at, which everyone on this board has said at least once I'm sure, but he is good at everything. Obviously we wouldn't be looking for a starter at this spot in the draft, but Lighty projects as a great option behind someone.

Plus, he's got a great basketball IQ -- something 11/12 players on this team seriously lack. (Recall Scott having to simplify an already simplified defense? yeah...)

It would be nice to have someone on the team that you wouldn't have to tell twice, how to play a certain defensive scheme. Lighty gets it, and I hope the Cavs are in a position to take a look at him later in the 2nd round.

He kind of reminds me as that player you could put on your team and as a result free up a roster spot. For example Josh Cribbs fills the KR/WR#3 role, most teams would need two players to fit those roles, so Cribbs basically allows the Browns to keep on an extra OT, DL, or another player that would not have made the team otherwise. Due to Lighty's versatility the Cavs could keep an extra big man that they may not have been able to otherwise because of all the roles Lighty can fill off the bench. At least that is how I have considered the upside of Lighty.

I'm not too crazy about the Cavs drafting Lighty, but if they could with their second 2nd rounder I wouldn't be upset.

The first time? How about at any time? Did he ever work out anywhere? I'm actually asking a serious question as I don't know what became of him.
