Luka Doncic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He has old school magic in him, Magic or Pistol Pete types, the bold moves not the game itself. He doesn’t do it to show off, because the moves are very effective.
You can already hear the audience in Dallas l waiting for him to pull something when the setting is right. Amazing.
I hope I will be able to see him a few times live playing for our NT, but a game or two in the NBA will have to get into our family financial plan also.

Next up: Mavs at Lakers.

Somehow, Spurs at Suns will be on ESPN instead.

Also, another view of the play at 2:55 in the above video:

Honestly, so far it seems like he does a lot of things well (especially for his age) but isn't really great at anything. He'll definitely be a good player but will he be a great player? The fact that he is pretty meh as an athlete makes me wonder how much of an extra gear he will show as he gains experience. I mean, he will certainly improve but how much? With star athletes there is a high ceiling when they match their brains with their athleticism. His brains are already there but what is his athletic ceiling?

So far he does seem to resemble a Hedo Turkoglu type player, although not as good as peak Hedo yet (his 3-pointer is not as reliable). Hedo Turkoglu was a quite good player at his peak, but if that turns out to be Doncic's ceiling that will be a disappointment.

This post from me like two days ago is already looking pretty stupid. Dumb when I made it, getting dumber.

Yeah, I'd say his craftiness, if there is such a thing, is at an elite level. He's also a far superior shooter than some people thought. It doesn't surprise me he's shooting almost 40% from three. The way he operates the PnR is also pretty elite, IMO. Just knows how to navigate in the paint and use angles extremely well. That combined with his floater and the elite court vision is very deadly.

One thing that will come with experience is cutting down on his turnovers.

He is shooting better from 3 in the NBA than he did in the Euro League, hopefully that keeps up as people amp up the defense on him. I think it will, he is very confident in his shot.

He is really impressive already, but gonna be interesting to see him develop over the next 2-3 years. Third year in the league which is usually when teenagers have all the kinks out and you can get a good sense of the mature player.

Really wish we could have found a way to snag this guy. Damn you Brooklyn.

I mentioned this in the tank thread but the combination that landed the #2 pick went to Sacramento......who won one more game than the Nets.

So it's really simplifying the season but depending on how combinations broke, the Cavs giving the Nets that one extra win could have possibly cost them the chance to draft Doncic.

Mavs scoring 108.8 points per 100 possessions with Doncic on the court, 94.4 points per 100 possessions with Doncic on the bench. That's enormous (and unsurprisingly the best differential on the team).

A 14.4 point differential is pretty insane.

The nature of his game reminds me a bit of Larry Bird. Bird never looked graceful, but he had a way of making everyone trying to defend him look awkward. I'm not saying he's going to be as good as Bird, but he does have that same kind of weird craftiness about his game.

And it's not that they're both white. It's just how they make other people look who are trying to guard them.

Am I the only one who wants Doncic to drop 40 on the Lakers tonight in a convincing win?

I can already imagine it...

Still baffling to me that it's not on national TV. If you had to pick one Mavs game to put on TV for the entire year, this would surely be it...right? What are they thinking?
