The NY Post claims that Marshall has agreed to terms with the Cavs. Take this for what its worth since it's the NY Post and they didn't manage to spell his name correctly.

[Perhaps to force the situation to a conclusion, the Nets yesterday increased their courtship of Memphis free agent power forward Stromile Swift. But after the Nets received assurances from Abdur-Rahim that he wanted to play in New Jersey, Swift signed with Houston. The Nets' third power-forward option, Dontyell Marshall, agreed to terms with Cleveland. ]

If it's a pretty short contract that still leaves us with enough money to get Saras then I love it, otherwise I'm gonna have to think about it.

Re: Marshall to Cavs according to NY Post

If it truly only takes 3 mil to sign Saras, and the longer it takes the less I believe that, then we'd be able to offer Marshall 3 or 4 mil and still get Saras. Then we could trade Gooden for a backup center and fill out the last three spots on the roster with veteran minimum guys.

Re: Marshall to Cavs according to NY Post

This is the same paper that has Lebron leaving the Cavalier's in every second article. Marshall and Saruans is a great result, although it leaves us still thin behind Ilgauskas. I'll refrain from looking too far into it for the time being.

Re: Marshall to Cavs according to NY Post

As a New Yorker and an NBA fan, I don't take anything the Post prints very seriously--particularly if Pete Vecsey writes it. As I wrote on another thread yesterday, Marshall in my mind is the best of the potential Gooden replacements I've seen bandied about on this site. He can hit the three, defend and rebound. But for those reasons, signing him would leave the piggy bank too empty to sign a good point guard which, in my humble opinion, is the greater need. If we could trade Gooden and one of our redundant three (Ira, Sasha or Luke) for a good point guard and then sign Marshall too, then we'd have a real nice team heading into next season--on paper at least.

Re: Marshall to Cavs according to NY Post

Don't believe it until it's coming from a REAL newspaper, not the New York Post.

Dont forget, as someone may have mentioned already, this is the same newspaper that has LeBron signing with New York every 2 sentences.

Re: Marshall to Cavs according to NY Post

Man, why doesn't the ABJ comfirm if any of these signings are real or not? Windhorst, comfirm these things for us!

I would be happy with Marshall, but would him playing next to Z work in the starting lineup?

Re: Marshall to Cavs according to NY Post

It happened too late. I have been told it is a done deal....not that that means anything to anyone here. It will be made clear by this afternoon.

Re: Marshall to Cavs according to NY Post

The New York Post isn't credible. but, it does break a lot of the information first being it's new york. I'll be cautiously optimisttic.

With out furtherly second guessing the source, it would be nice if you people would analyse marshall to cleveland.

Personnally the idea of a shooting 4 who has the versatility to play the 3 is very inticing. It's a great fit next to Z. Now, the only question is gooden. Does he stay, does he go.

He stays. He's gonna be playing for a contract this coming year and I have to believe that he will put his all out on the court because of this.

If Gooden stays and the news is true, do we have enough cash left to sign Jasikevicius and who backs up Z? AV can play center against some teams, but not against the heat? Do we keep Diop for the league minimum?

new marshall article..

not sure im for this or not.

Word out of Cleveland is suggesting that Toronto Raptors free agent Donyell Marshall could be close to agreeing to terms on a contract with the Cavaliers. Marshall has been adamant about commanding the entire mid-level exception – between 4.8M and 5.2M – from any team wishing to retain his services. The Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Seattle Sonics and Chicago are all interested in the 6-9 forward. He is considered out of range for the Raptors who plan on dividing their exception between two, even three players.

The underrated Marshall has been a steady contributor over the course of his NBA career sporting averages of 12.4 PPG and 7.3 RPG over five teams. He is also a deadly long-range shooter and has averaged over forty percent from beyond the three-point line in each of the last four seasons. Last year with Toronto Marshall averaged 11.5 PPG and 6.6 RPG in just 25 minutes a night off the bench. If Marshall does join the Cavaliers he would be the latest addition in a solid off-season for the franchise. They managed to resign All-Star center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to a multi-year contract and snagged free agent guard Larry Hughes from the market for the long-term.

The move for Marshall might also negate the urgency to deal power forward Drew Gooden whose defensive deficiencies have put him on the trading block. With Marshall able to play defense against both power forwards and centers the Cavs could conceivably keep both and go with a frontcourt rotation that would also include 7-2 Lithuanian rookie Martyna Andriuskevicius. Of course, the flip side is that adding Marshall will hasten Gooden’s departure if he they think he can still eat up big minutes.

Teams can officially begin signing free agents on Friday.

The arrival of Marshall does not spell the end for Gooden.

Marshall plays the 3-4, and can guard 5's which is a big surprise to me. But it's all good, more versatility is key.

AV can play spot minutes at the 5. So can Marshall.

An addition of Marshall to the starting lineup could be welcomed. His outside shooting will be great. Rebounding won't be that much of an issue: Z, Hughes, and LeBron are more than capable of snagging those with all the space.

The only concern I have now is that if Marshall is commanding the entire MLE, how much space will we have left? I hope we have an agreement with Saras already. Or, perhaps the friendship between Ferry-Z-Saras paired with their commitment to win will help finalize negotiations. Maybe Z will take a mil less so Saras can take a mil more to construct an extremely balanced team to make a big run at a championship. I'm sure they both realize that a championship is light years ahead in terms of importance over a million dollars on top of 50.

New York Post is pretty much a tabloid as far as im concerned.

i had another article about marshall signing with the cavs.. but a mod just deleted it. it never used the NY Post as a source either.

if id get marshall and sarunas id look at diop for like 100,000 dollar contract or something...
