Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
An interesting part of the deal is all the protections and how we can't get the 1st round pick till 2 years after Phoenix gets their 1st round pick from the Bledsoe deal. That pick won't convey this year probably because of the back end first round protections. What we might be looking at is a 2022 1st round pick.

What wouldn't surprise me is if Koby has a handshake deal to trade the first round pick in 2021 or whenever it conveys back to them for this year's pick during the draft when they are eligible to trade it.

This is a good trade. Delly will help Collin a million times better than Hill. He hasn't been good for Milwaukee, but maybe in a different role he can do well. Clarkson is exactly the kind of guy he can work with too.

Henson sucks a bit, but he can defend some and he is really long.

Henson also is also a pretty decent rim protector, averaging 1.5 bpg for his career.

But he may not be here for the long haul, depending. He can provide some D, rebounding, and rim protection in a 20mpg bench role on a contract that's really not that bad in its final year (just under $9.8M next year). So there could be teams in the playoff hunt that might be interested.

And this trade happened at a time where all involved will hit the 60 day waiting period so they can be lumped in with others.

Even Delly could go if his play picks up with more time.

Though Delly + Henson together might be eyeballing the ability to trade Tristan. Delly coming back could allow him to asset himself as a leader - and that is what makes Tristan difficult to trade now.

But Tristan is climbing to a 20 PER. If he remains healthy and continues to play as he has, he will pass 20. He has a positive A:TO ratio and has shown the ability to run some offensive plays while being able to switch on D, throw some beautiful screens, etc.

Tristan is an asset, but he's also a leader. However if he keeps playing like this, teams will be calling in two months. It's important to set the price high because we should be very happy to keep him, but enough bidders could make it hard to resist a trade - and Delly may be able to help mitigate any leadership issues that could arise from losing Thompson.

There could be a lot happening in the next 60. If Love returns and has a good January, teams will be interested - especially a team like Portland. Burks can help someone and also free up a lot of cap space. Henson, Delly, and Tristan could all be available and desirable depending on play. I think they would only trade one of Delly or Tristan.

A lot of moving parts, but the Cavs made a nice move today that does not thwart future moves much.

Can't do that without modifying the trade with the Suns. The Suns would want some compensation for shifting the pick because it is likely to convey in 2020 but they would have to give it up for us to get it this year.

It is also likely those protections were asked for by the Suns on the back end. They did not want a #25 pick. At least not in year one.

If they do it on draft day, make the pick for us then trade the player to us. That satisfys the Stepien rule. That has no effect on the Suns pick then, it can then convey next year.

A 2022 pick is worthless to Koby because of Gilbert's track record of not keeping GMs. He will want that pick to make it's mark on the team sooner than later.

On a little over two attempts per game. Hill is 32, oft-injured, declining defensively, and not a part of our future plans even a little bit.

This was a good trade.

Hill isn't more than insurance for Bledsoe or Brogdon when they cant handle a defensive assignment or one of them is having a off night. They traded for him for the cap relieve. At the end of the day, Hill's minutes will most likely depend on the opposing team and the matchup against Snell. If they need another guard in the rotation it will be Hill, if they need a wing it will be Snell.

Both Henson and Delly are who they are at this point. I still think Delly can be above 40% from the field with the right players on the floor with him. Henson is a career third big who isn't able to bang much but managed to add shooting range recently, to his credit. Both are in their physical prime but have limitations that make them ideal for the second string.

The Cavs are collecting some assets but they are players who will compliment the incoming high draft picks. That is the real goal for Altman that Chris Grant missed: Young raw lottery picks who are 19 years old can't just be surrounded by other young guys who don't know how to be professionals. They need decent players putting forth effort on the floor with them. George Hill knows he is at the end of the line and isn't going to be the mentor that Dellavedova already has proven he can be. Delly is a team first player, and has been ever since he signed a partially guaranteed deal out of college.
