If we can't get a good young big (which most likely we won't), we should look at McDyess. Yes, he is old, but he is still a solid solid player that we would be able to sign for 1 or 2 years.

He is basically a better version of Joe Smith. His game fits perfect around LBJ on offense.

I think he is a very realistic option if he doesn't retire. I doubt he wants to go back to Detroit after that mess of a season and Sheed possibly being gone.

He shouldn't command big time money. He was said himself he thought long and hard about coming to Cleveland instead of Detroit and that we showed him a lot of interest. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he went to Boston either. They also showed interest. Powe is out for half of next season, and Big Baby is a FA.

Everyone just keeps saying we need to get a good young big guy that is athletic and can defend and shoot the ball. Sorry to break it to you guys, but all those guys are on a team already making 10+ mil a season.

We were this close to making the NBA Finals. Sure, I would love to get another star on our team via Ben Wallace trade, but we all saw what happened this season with Wally. He was supposed to be a guaranteed goner. We can't rely on someone being desperate and giving us a stud for cap relief. If it happens, great, but don't rely on it.

I would be more than happy with an offseason of re-signing Andy, signing McDyess, and signing a SG/SF guy that would allow us to go small with LBJ at the 4. A Matt Barnes/Pietrus/Ariza type of player.

I think that would be enough to put us over the top.

McDyess (He averaged 9.6 ppg and 9.8 rpg this season, deadly mid range J, would sadly be our best offensive big)
Hickson/DJ (Hopefully at least one of them develops into a solid contributor)

Gibson (Hopefully the Boobie of old returns next season)
SG/SF (A guy that can guard 2's and 3's. This would have been huge vs Orlando)

That bench would look a lot better than what we have now...

Smith (solid vet, but nothing compared to McDyess)
Wallace (useless on offense)

Gibson (was terrible all season)
Zerb (just overall a stiff)

I want Gortat, and think he should be available for MLE. He makes only $700k this year.

His per-48 minute averages: 15 pts, 18 rebs, 3.5 blks. His PER is 22 (all according to 82games.com)

I would take Gortat over him as well, but I just don't see it happening. The Magic (and a lot of other teams) will probably be offering him just as much money as we can.

Even if the Magic can't offer him anything because they decide to keep Hedo, we will still be competing with a lot of other teams.

I am sure a lot of teams will offer McDyess a contract too, but at his age, he wants to be on a contender.

Well, if the Magic were to offer the MLE to Gortat, they'd have $27 million wrapped up in Howard-Battie-Gortat next year. I can't see them doing that AND resigning Hedo, especially considering Gortat doesn't really play much with Howard there...
