Midseason Prospect Rankings

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So, Clement is gone for a duo of Freeman/Rocchio/Gimenez/Miller as 2nd/SS/Utility type roster ... but you will hold onto Call just due to his AAA splits even though he is not even in top 30-45 on most if not all prospect lists?

If Benson and Valera are all that along with Oscar and Kwan ... with Straw having a heartbeat again at the plate, Call is not long around here. Call will never be worth more than a flyer. You can get a Call type for about that flyer (outside top - 30 prospect). Even if Benson/Oscar are not long for Cleveland due to Valera taking over right, the value you can get for having them have a hot Aug-May is worth keeping them for an offseason to realize the full trade value of their potential).

The value you will get for an Oscar or Benson right now is the 1-2 FV on BTV (not much more than PTBNL or cash) Yet, you lose value giving up on either Benson or Oscar if they can become an everyday player. If Benson is now your top 15 prospect, you keep him during offseason over Call because the value of Call/Luplow is a top -30 prospect at best but if Benson is now in form, the gain over next year of proving himself is a top -15 prospect coming back next year when you may need room for Valera (or bag of balls if he bust which is what Call/Benson are now anyways). What is there to lose by keeping Benson/Oscar to increase their trade value (by proving themselves)? -- Call ... but that type of player is a dime a dozen. Luplow was worth TT who is falling out of Pitt prospect lists. Luplow at best (Tampa needing him was Battenfield - now a 22-25 rank prospect per BHC. Call ain't no Luplow no matter how you cut it.

Plus -- if Oscar is your RF ... what is wrong with Straw-Oscar as your righties and Kwan-Benson as your lefties ...(until Valera is ready) -- especially if Miller grabs an OF glove during offseason to fill in when needed for a lefty pitcher. Call is expendable.

I see more room for a potential top bat based on potential of Oscar or Benson versus just having a Call (Luplow type) as we think we have too many lefties.

At the moment I am keeping Call since we have a lot of Left handed OFs...

Once this trade deadline passes, I will reevaluate if keeping Call is the right move or not. I really do believe they will be making a move or two at the trade deadline...

Am I crazy for thinking that Clement is a better utility player than Owen Miller?

Their bats suck, but at least I have confidence in Clement defensively.

Clement is perfect for the garbage time at the end of the bench. I think Miller needs to be sent down honestly to fix some of his issues...

Someone our front office wanted. Like, a Vinnie Pestano level prospect.

I just think Miller provides no value to this organization.

Francona doesn't agree with you...

I wonder if we can package him with another prospect or two for Burke from the Rangers

I know.

I think Clement is better now, and one of the young prospects who doesn't earn a starting job will likely be better than both of them.

I also don't think Miller realistically has any value, so it's just wishful thinking.

Miller still has value and potential, he just needs to make adjustments. I feel like it's more mental than physical with him personally...

To you, he does. That's fine. There might even be someone else out there who values him as well, which is why I'd trade him. He had success, moved very quickly through the minors, isn't even 26 yet, and still only has 500 PA's at the major league level.

I don't think he can play here at MIF above Gimenez, Arias, Freeman, Rocchio. I don't think he can play 1B. I don't think he can play the OF. I don't think he's a better utility player than Clement and the rest of Arias/Freeman/Rocchio/Bracho who don't earn a starting spot and don't get traded.

So, if you have a young player who might still be intriguing, and there's no value he can provide to you organization, that's a great player to move before he loses all luster.

Bracho shouldn't be included anymore (he has been dropped as a prospect).. That spot goes to Tena, Martinez ans Tolentino... lol

I just feel Miller needs to toughen up mentally. He seems to struggle defensively if he struggles offensively. He isnt good at keeping things separate so his problem is the mental side of things. Earlier this season, when he was hitting, he wasn't making errors. When he wasn't hitting, he was making a bunch of errors. Last season, when he got called up and wasn't hitting and making errors he never made in the minors. He's gotta mature some in my mind. I think if he does then he should be able to be a solid everyday utility type...

Now that being stated, we have a ton of MIF talent, so its hard to believe we can wait for that maturity to happen since we just don't have time to wait for that to happen, but the tools are there and I think someone is wiling to take a chance on him and if we are only needing a solid bullpen arm back in return, I think we would be able to.

Though this is slightly getting off track for this thread lol

Physically , athletically and defensively he reminds me of Darryl Strawberry but more versatile defensively.

No matter what people think of him , have to give kudos to Benson and the Instructors for the incredible job of remodeling this very raw prospect in to either a future trading piece or a core player here.

This notion that Benson is “ancient” at age 24 As one poster pointed out, Is similar to the lame argument used on Cavz recent first round pick Ochai Agbaji . Benson just turned 24 . Next year a 25 year old rookie and a finished product.

Former Tribe prospect/player Brian Giles was 26 years old before he got an opportunity to play . Giles had a nice run for the next 10 before retiring at age 38.
Absolutely not true.

Giles got a cup of coffee at 24 yrs old.

The corner outfielders for Cleveland were two guys named Manny Being Manny and Albert Dont Call Me Joey.

At age 25 Giles played 51 games in Cleveland. Same corner OFs.

Looking across our outfield, I do not see two HOF level batters blocking any prospect.

But OK.

24 is not ancient for a position prospect, but it is reaching the end of prospect shelf life.

Just go back thru the past thirty years and look at all the best Indian players...and tell me the % that didnt see MLB until 25 yrs old...heck, the % that didnt see MLB until 24.

For the first part, don't list...

Sandy
Lofton
Belle
Manny
Omar
Sorrento
Choo
Grady
Brantley
Droobs
Santana
JRam
Lindor
Kipnis
Chisenhall

You can list...

Bracho maybe out for now but I would keep an eye on him jumping back in because he has been heating up lately much to my surprise.

Especially if what we're talking about is a utility infielder role, saying a formerly highly ranked prospect "shouldn't be included" is a pretty bad take.

Bracho, now in his second year in A+...doesn't make contact, doesn't hit for power, doesn't run, and isn't an esp gifted defender...in an org with a gazillion young MIFs.

He's probably about 13th/14th on the list of MIF/util MIFs.
