Mike Brown

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
i loved how he was calling timeouts as soon as he saw a mistake to correct the players. it's like when your dog shits on the carpet - you gotta rub their nose in it right away or they'll forget why you're doing it.

Byron Scott had some strengths, but inspiring effort wasn't one of them. Brown seems determined to motivate and inspire effort at all times. At least with Brown you know they won't get lazy on D and give up 20 point leads. you could already tell from the first preseason game that they were going twice as hard on defense.

Based on the hustle and energy these guys showed last night, espcially on the defensive end of the floor, it looks like every last guy is all in on Mike's philosophy. Amazing to see.

Also, there was more ball movement and team basketball than I ever saw under Byron Scott. It was literally shocking. And that's with next to no offensive sets installed.

And like gregdawg said, I LOVED the early timeouts. Teaching timeouts. That's EXACTLY what they're for in preseason.

I love his new swag. I mean, i know its one game... but did you see what the guy was wearing? No more ties matching his glasses, he had a button down shirt with the top two or three buttons popped open. swag. he had a pep in his step. swag. even his high fives had swag to them.

okay, that is the first and last time I will ever use the word "swag" so many times in a paragraph. I feel dumb. I'm going to go read something now.

Missed mikes defense

Hope his offense doesn't devolve into kyrieiso

Kyrie has a long way to go to being a plus defender, but it was hilarious watching the all star PG throw himself around the court trying to contest shots. He's definitely following through on his promise to improve his effort. In a preseason game no less.

Mike Brown has these guys buying in early. It will be telling to see how these guys are playing at the 50 game mark, after they've seen some adversity. Mike Brown never struck me as a guy who lead from the front, but I'm not sure if that had more to do with the superstar power he had on his roster before or if it's part of his personality. With a team this young and inexperienced, he'll need to really push these guys and get them to buy in for the entire season. I'm really interested in how it plays out.

Looks good after one preseason game though. :chuckles:

Mike seemed much looser and giddier than I remember. I think he's grown in confidence that he doesn't have to adjust himself as much and especially with this young team, he can set the tone and get them bought in. I liked Scott's stoicism on the sideline but it was a nice change to see Mike fist-pumping, engaging with players, and directing them actively throughout the game.

I'm still waiting for someone to provide me with a gif of him emphatically waving around his index finger in the huddle in the 2nd quarter.

On a more serious note, it's great to have him back. I had a lot of reservations about bringing him back considering how he managed the previous Cavs teams, but you can just tell that he's a changed man this time around. He has much more authority this time around, he seems way more confident and relaxed, and he has learned quite a few valuable lessons from his previous hirings. Right now, I honestly can't come up with anyone I would rather see in that position.

Anyone think the improved effort has anything to do with getting rid of "Camp Scott"?

I remember a lot of players were pissed and said basically that Byron burned everybody out in camp, then they had tired legs for the entire season. Could be some truth to that. They also probably stand around in practice a lot more with Brown teaching them.

At least they're learning tho. Hopefully we have the conditioning to take this effort deep into the season and post-season.

We need that finger-wag gif. Make it happen.

One might say that to this point, the hiring has been a "slam dunk."

I wonder how many games Byron Scott's cavs held opponents to sub 40% FG .

I know its the Bucks and its preseason, but its encouraging to see this type of result this early on.

I've eluded to this as well. When Mike came here in his fIrst go-round as head coach, we never had the team makeup that most coaches like him have, when they receive their very first NBA head coaching gig. You usually get a poor performing younger team, that needs to develop and learn how to play the NBA game.

Mike Brown's strengths as a basketball coach, and how he became so well known and respected as an assistant while at San Antonio, and Indiana was built on his stellar abilities at developing younger talent, and building a defense first mentality with players looking to grow and develop their games from zone based college, to NBA styles.

The team he was handed here in Cleveland had a few young talents in Lebron and Varejao, whom he truly did develop into not only good defenders, but possibly the very best at their positions in the entire NBA. But, for the most part the team he got was an older mish/mash of narrow skill set vets. His preoccupation was finding ways to get them to play off each others limited skills, to form a decent team chemistry mix with Lebron James. As I look back at his job performance now, and really looking at the talent he had on-hand in an objective manner ...he did a much better job than I ever gave him credit for, at that time.

Then, you look at the job he was handed in LA, and you had much of the same as well..

Fast forward to this Cleveland club, and what we have..and where Mike Brown IS, as an NBA head coach... I honestly believe that a more perfect marriage could not possibly be found for each entity at this particular place and time. I truly think the stars could not be more perfectly aligned,...for development and success. This is one of those 2013-14 NBA Coach of the Year type deals that takes Mike Brown's industry reputation, and pushes him up to one of those top end guys within the NBA, imho...

I think he's got top end raw gifted talent, that is the perfect compliment for what he can take and mold into something very special.. As for Kyrie..he got a few key years with a guy like Byron who could lock him into what he does best, and round that offensive game to where it is, and that is great.. But, now ..we got the winning edge element coming in now that polishes the talent into what separates pure stats, into W's.

Mike Brown now has that perfect team element that can allow him to put on display for all to see, his greatest strengths as a basketball coach. I truly believe that by year's end we will be looked at as one of the very best rising young teams in all the NBA... and Mike Brown as one of the best head coaches in all the league as well. I'LL SAY IT NOW.. If not the NBA Coach of the Year ..he will be one of the top candidates.

Is Lebron coming back or not bro

lets just hope we dont literally take the 3rd quarter off like in his first go around
