Mike Dunleavy Duck Hunt

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Give him until ASB to get it together. He & RJ look like death out there IMO. If a historically great shooter can't find his rythym by them, move him for any serviceable SG you can find.

Think this would be a huge mistake. He will get back into a groove. The guy has been with the same team for 3 years. Then comes into an incredibly established team. Cavs are 9 games into the season. Maybe give him some time to adjust.

He will find his niche. Like I said a few post earlier. Look at RJ. He looked like trash until the playoffs then was huge for us. I expect the same out of Dunleavy. These guys are smart veterans that make the right play and are always where they are supposed to be. His shot will start falling eventually. He shot well during the preseason. Shooters will hit slumps his is just at a bad time. unless his back is still terrible.

And if he is really hurt my question is which serviceable SG are you going to get if he is still not playing well? Teams don't just give up players especially for players with another year on their contract.

Exactly right--great post.

We won't get JACK SHIT for aging vets on the trade market. Not a damn thing.

Here's the thing about old players: THEY ARE OLD.

What does this mean? It takes them longer to find their groove and fit in, but once they do, they are reliable as fuck. Besides, you can never have enough shooters in this league. I'm fine with Dunleavy taking a while to find his groove, and quite honestly, I'm fine if it takes him well into the second half of the season.

We will need his shooting and length at some point, and if nothing else, we keep him at the end of the bench for insurance. Remember 2015 finals? Another shooter would have made a huge difference. I'm not saying Dunleavy would have helped us win (like, seriously, I'm not saying this), but when LeBron goes into finals beast mode: shooters, shooters, shooters.

We need to change the title Dunleavy's jumphot safari. You can see that he knows what to do as he's getting into good spots on the floor or creates separation with a pump fake but he's missing for what for him should be bunnies. I saw him play against Iowa when he was at Duke and he'd bury the kinds of looks he's getting now without breaking a sweat

You never know when these older players will fall off the cliff. We got lucky with Jefferson last year and it looks like the gamble didn't quite pan out this go round.

Still plenty of time for him to turn it around.

Something about this Cavs team,
It takes certain players a long time to figure out how to fit in. KLove, Shump, RJ to name a few all went through periods of extreme awkwardness before they started to find the way to fit in and be effective .

Dunleavy is going through it now, problem is he's pretty old so he needs to figure it out sooner rather than later .

When I see Dunleavy on the floor, it doesn't look like a case where he doesn't understand the offense. It looks to me like he isn't very fluid moving, like Mike Miller two years ago. The Clippers loss felt like a depth loss to me. Clippers had a bad bench for a few years, but their bench actually fits together this year.

Mike dunleavy needs to go spend time with his kids

If he has kids

I doubt Gilbert takes his luxury tax hit - he will perform or be gone by the trading/waiver deadline

I don't think Dunleavy likes to shoot on the move. And that's a problem with this team, because many of the threes come in transition and they come off of bang-bang passes.

I'm hoping this is the case, and that Dunleavy will be able to adjust and find his comfort zone with his shot again. He's still a very smart player and a good team player, but he's likely to be pretty useless to us unless his shot comes back around.

There's a diference between Dunleavy and vets like Mike Miller & Marion. He's still hasn't won a NBA championship. That must be a huge motivation for him. We all agree his performances have been subpar so far (not only his shooting) but maybe, just maybe he's taking it easy trying not to injure himself before the post season. Maybe he'll give more effort later in the season.

People seem to be forgetting that Dunleavy took a pretty bad shot to the head the other night.

He is no doubt having the same kinds of issues trying to fit in that Love encountered as well.

My upside for Dunleavy would be if he could be the Cavs version of Shaun Livingston. Dunleavy is an excellent passer. He is actually capable of handling the ball in limited ways, and he is a seasoned vet who knows how to take care of the ball. He has height and length similar to Livingston so he can see the court well and pass over smaller players. I believe Dunleavy can be much more of a facilitator for the second unit offense.

Dunleavy doesn't have the post game that Livingston does but he is a much better outside shooter. Dunleavy should certainly be able to play solid position defense and he should certainly be able to keep his man off the glass and carry out his box-out responsibilities unlike our other perimeter players.

I will predict that we haven't scratched the surface with this guy yet. There is a pretty steep adjustment period that still hasn't been completed both for Lue to figure out how to get the most out of Dunleavy, for Dunleavy to understand his role, and for the rest of the team to learn how to mesh with Dunleavy on the court.

This guy has been a pretty effective rotation player in the NBA his whole career. I've hated seeing him come on the court as an opposition player and he's been a thorn in the side of a lot of teams. It's up to Lue to get the most out of him and Dunleavy can certainly be an antidote to some of our weaknesses and lack of length on the second unit.

I doubt he's finished physically, if anything he is still just not all the way back in his recovery from back surgery but he should be pretty close. But his game has never been dependent on pure athleticism. He does need to be able to once again become the kind of player who moves without the ball all the time, and he needs to have people find him with the ball in the right spots. He needs other people to move without the ball to exploit his passing as well.

I think Dunleavy will be much more of an answer to some of the problems we're seeing than people currently realize.

Oh Dunleavy is actually pretty awesome, I think a lot of people know that. He's got a good basketball IQ, very tough, good shooter and capable defender. Its just a big question mark as to whether he's physically capable of giving us anything at this point. If he is and he manages to step up later this year and in the playoffs, we will be in much better shape than it feels right now.

But I am legitimately worried that he's fallen off physically. The guy has had problems as of late.

Cavs have to figure something out with Dunleavy. I think Zach Lowe wrote about this but I would try him as backup PG: he's clearly not comfortable just to go stand in the corner and his past success with the Bulls he was handling the rock more. Considering our lack of PG options would be worth a shot

Backup PG dear god that would be a disaster. It seems like every time he touches the ball he either misses the shot or turns it over.

When you get older you don't play down a position you play up. He should be at PF. If you wanna try him as a point forward then fine. But running plays through him and bringing the ball up the court no way.
