Figured it would be nice to have a minor league thread for anyone that wants to talk prospects in the Indians Organization.

Columbus:
Santana: 6-10 with 3 homeruns, 2 doubles, 7 rbi
Donald: 4-9 with 3 doubles, 1 walk, 1 rbi
Hodges: 4-8 with 1 homerun, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 3 rbi

Carrasco 1st start was 5 2/3 giving up 3 runs on 8 hits to go with 8 k's
Rondon was crushed in his 1st start last night giving up 7 runs on 10 hits in 3 innings

Akron
Lonnie: 4-7 with 2 doubles, 1 walk, 2 rbi
Welgarz: 1-5 with 3 walks
Rivero: 1-5 with 2 walks
Mills: 1-7 with a walk, rbi

Scott Barnes was crushed in his 1st start giving up 5 runs in 3 1/3.
Putnam is starting now. Went 4 innings, giving up 2 run in his debut this year.

The game last night was a home run derby basically. Trevor Crowe hit a bomb that landed about 5 feet from me, so I'm not sure I'd take too much out of Rondon's performance. Pedro Alvarez is a monster, though...

Beau Mills, nice start for him, glad we took him over Jason Heyward.

I hated the Mills pick.

He played 3rd in college but every scouting report said he wouldn't stay there.
Now he can't even handle 1st base.

Just a horrible draft pick.

Good day in Akron today for hitters

Welgarz 2-5 with first homerun and double on the year
Mills 3-5 with a double
Lonnie 1-4 with a walk
Rivero 2-5

Akron has a vet offense this year with McBride, Toregas, Mills, Welgarz, Rivero, Drennen repeating. Then mixing in Fedroff, Lonnie, and Cord Phelps.

Lonnie and Welgarz are the impact guys. Rivero and Mills are fringe guys. The rest are bench players.

Pitching wise Akron does not have much young talent yet.
Putnam should eventually make the pen as a situational lefty, maybe more.
Graham and Barnes are long shots to make the rotation. Could be mid-long relief options.
The rest are long shots to make it to Cleveland.

Going to have wait till mid-year to see the likes of Kelvin De La Cruz, Nick Hagadone, TJ House, and Alexander Perez.

Went to the Captains Game today, Danny Salazar got the start, took him a few innings to settle in, but once he did he was making hitters look foolish.

This made me sick...they put up his D.O.B. and it was January something 1990. Just so weird seeing guys born in the 90's playing pro-sports.

Delvi Cid is as advertised. FAST AS HELL. Needs to get some better plate discipline thought, really chased after a few bad pitches.

And lastly, Chung Cheng. Didn't get a really good read on him. But, he should get to Cleveland soon based solely on his name.

I'm really hoping Lonnie and Weglarz improve and move through the minors quickly. I really like these guys as prospects and can't wait for them to get to AAA/majors. Lonnie pretty much will see time in the majors once Peralta is gone, but it may take Weglarz a little bit. I really love power hitters so that's why I'm obsessed with Weglarz.

I hope that Lonnie gets off to a hot start in AA, and gets promoted to AAA in by mid season so he can get to the majors soon.

I doubt we'll run with Lonnie as the starter in 2011, so hopefully we can find a 1 year stop gap to fill in at 3rd. Or we might have to accept the option on Jhonny

Yeah, I hear you..I was born in 1989 and I'm finally reaching the point where there are dudes in the PROS who are younger than me.

Very very scary...

Just a horrible draft pick.

He's one of the best defensive first baseman in the minor leagues...

Weglarz with a grand slam.

2nd homer of the year. Akron up 6-1

Wow good start for Weglarz eh?

This is the make or break year for Weglarz. Either he becomes a legit, big time prospect or he becomes a fringe player. If he becomes legit, we've got another monster on our hands.

So what is the difference between LaPorta and Weglarz as far as prospective power hitters go?

LaPorta has 30+ power whereas Weglarz can have 40-50+ power. LaPorta will be the better overall hitter but Weglarz is a big time power hitter.
