MLB - Trade Rumors and Speculation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

#Indians have released Jason Knapp, who in 2009 was said to be the key to the Cliff Lee trade. Knapp has not pitched since 2010.

Wow. In the past few years of Indians baseball, nothing has made me more disgusted than the return we got for CC and Lee. Absolutely pathetic.

Miller, Rondon, Carrasco, Knapp. Pitching has been hit hard.

Hopefully Rondon and Carrasco can still come back though.

Out of curiosity, when a team trades a star for prospects, what's used to evaluate the prospects?

Does the team send out scouts to watch the prospects play for the extent of like 20-25 games or so? If so, do they send them out as soon as trade talks start, before, well in advance?
Always wondered how that works.

Well, obviously, in the case of the Cleveland Indians, they ask the other team what they think of their prospects. And if said team gives an OK, the Indians go ahead and make the trade.

Indians will release both Damon and Accardo today. Club still has one more day to make move with Lowe (release or trade).

Radinsky out as pitching coach. Dolan gives interview defending Antonetti and has this gem: "We had an opportunity to make up some ground in attendance. We were set up for a drive for the playoffs." Only a matter of time before the fans catch he said attendance before playoffs.

If they keep Antonetti and throw some band-aids on this squad and try to compete next year it's only to get worse for them. Blow it up. Keep Shapiro if he is your guy - but make him bring in someone from outside the organization to be the GM.

Seems more likely that they would promote from within.

Ruben Niebla is named interim pitching coach. He was the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the Pitching Coach for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.

Agree completely here. I like what Shap has done as President, but we need fresh blood in there as GM. Shap can get them acclimated to how the organization & city are, but let the new guy run all personnel.

This is just ridiculous.

Granted, I'm not "in the know" or anything of the sort, but it's my understanding that scouts are always on the move & are sent out well in advance of any legitimate, specific trade talks start.

My best guess would be that they gauge interest around the league and/or already have an idea of who might or does have an interest in the star player, and go from there.
