Mock Draft 23 Commentary!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My opinion of the cornerbacks in this draft class keep going up, opinion of the receivers keep going down. I agree Porter was a great selection. Maybe I've been analyzing Andrew Berry drafts too long.

Love that Joey Porter Jr pick.

I don't think he's on the board at 18 in real life.

There's a very real chance he's the best corner in this draft class... and I'm having a hard time valuing the other two significantly ahead of him.

Yeah that was a tough pick. Still a ton of potentially elite talent available and there were several guys I waffled between selecting. Porter Jr. seemed to be the best remaining player at the Lions' biggest position of need, though, so he got the call.

I love Darnell Wright. I think he's seriously underrated and I won't be surprised if he goes as high as the third tackle off the board.

I think going to a place that already has Wirfs at right tackle is the worst possible landing spot for him... because I don't think Wirfs flipping to LT is as easy as some.

So @Randolphkeys what are your thoughts on the Kancey pick?

Cam Smith would have been a fantastic fit for the Texans and he went right before you had the chance. I don't value 3 techs as first round targets, but Kancey is the best three tech in this draft. For me, it was a reach only due to positional value. Kancey would be a fantastic Browns pick.

Fair enough. I value interior pass rush as the most valuable thing on defense--so Kancey was on my radar pretty high up the board.

Cam Smith wouldn't have been in my top 10 for the Texans at that point. We already have our shutdown #1 corner in Stingley. I don't believe that investing in ancillary coverage pieces improves a defense as much as investing in the front seven.

There were a lot of ways I could've gone with that pick, mostly geared towards the offensive side of the ball--but Kancey was the weapon I could give Demeco Ryans now who has the potential to be special--and didn't have a similar player available after him if I missed out.

On the one hand, how unstoppable is the Bills offense with a stud RB?

On the other, when you get to the big game, why would you want to take the ball out of Allen's hands? Josh Allen being your RB has led to one of the best teams over the past couple seasons--and if I'm a DC, watching you hand it off to Bijan instead of letting Allen get outside the pocket and do his thing makes me breathe a sigh of relief.

I have no issue with the talent (I was debating taking him at 24--figured there was a chance he fell all the way to my next pick at 33 if Buffalo didn't take him) or the fit--I just question if it's the right move.

I'm probably overanalyzing things.

I mean, just having him out there rather than Devin Singletary makes a difference, even on the plays he doesn't get the ball. He's a constant home run threat. If he busts off a sixty yard run in the first quarter and scores a TD, it puts points on the board the same as a Josh Allen QB sneak at the goal line in the fourth.

I don't disagree--just a bit of devils advocate after listening to other podcasts mock and then discuss Bijan to Buffalo.

Even the pass game ability of Bijan is, well, they already have Cook--right?

Apologize for missing the pick. Out in the sticks in WV and cell service is hit and miss.
