Portland made out like a bandit in this.

Meh. So far in the two trades combined they got one good player who could be a long term part of their core (Ayton), a late FRP in the 2024 draft, and a couple of 2029-30 FRPs that are forever away. Let’s see if they they get anything for Brogdon - he’s not useful to keep since they’re developing young guards

I guess Williams is a solid bench player but he always seems to be getting injured and he’s 26 already

They maximized (or got close to maximizing) Dame’s potential though, which is all they could do. If they settled for Herro they’d be in a worse position. And they could only conceivably make a deal with a contender, which means teams that don’t have great picks.

Not to mention quite funny to deal with Milwaukee and Boston in sequence, hope they have a series against each other.

Would be curious as to what Blazers would want for Williams. He’d fill a huge need as a legit backup C who is a great rebounder and versatile defender.

They would for sure take Okoro, Rubio, and Wade plus a second round pick!

Per the Boston Globe, Williams needed to be part of the deal, so it sounds unlikely that they’re interested in moving him.

Ayton is a good player. Williams is a good player. They will flip Brogdon for something. I have no idea what Camara is. The late first is semi-valuable. But those two future 1st rounders could be lottery picks by then and the pick swaps could be very good as well. Portland has some good young players and this gives them valuable pieces right now and key pieces down the road when they will likely be already ascending. To get all that for a guy that might have a good year or two left at a ridiculously high salary is a great deal in my accounting.

Robert Williams will be in a wheelchair by 2025

Still some question marks with Boston.
1. Will Porzingis stay healthy?
2. Does Horford have enough left in the tank?
3. Is Jaylen Brown really even that good?
4. Depth.

But every team has some question marks. And this helps Boston match up better with Milwaukee.
While it certainly looks like the Celtics could have a nasty starting 5, I think an argument can be made that the Cavs are better at 4 of the 5 positions (though Tatum over Strus is a ROUT).

And they don't have much of a bench left at this point. White and......?

Not sure I like all of that for Holiday when White essentially already does the same stuff. Now they don't really have a rim protector and less depth on the bench.

Yeah, I guess the question is would the Celtics have just been better off keeping Smart, Grant Williams, Robert Williams, Brogdan, and picks of making the moves they did?

Obviously looking at this in hindsight, but had they just stood pat and waited it out they could’ve potentially still traded for Jrue while keeping Grant Williams and either Smart or Time Lord.

If Boston’s healthy, they’re going to be amazing, but aside they have a bunch of guys that are old, injury prone, or both. They have two years to win a ring or things are going to get really messy.
