New music thread

Just needed a place to vent.

Deftones are coming to San Diego and I was super pumped about it. I'm looking at videos of these shows (dia de los deftones) and it's just tragic.

There is no one having a good time, no pit. It's just a bunch of people recording the entire show on their phones standing completely still. I know the demo has gotten older but there should at least be some sort of excitement in the audience. Not 20 people who have listened to this band and appreciated them for that type of energy in attendance?

The band has managed to play like they're young. Don't know if it's a generational thing or what but it's just depressing.

Was willing to spend the 250 to see them but it just looks sad now.

I sympathize with you on that. Last show I went to, there was an announcement at the beginning - no phones or you get the boot. Band is known to walk off the stage until the offender gets the boot, so the peer pressure is strong. You can take photos at the end, bit that's it.

Thoroughly agree with that policy. Can't see through the phones and they never go down
 
Death grips and 100 gecs are complete ass and can't believe they get the hype they do.
 
Took Mrs. Tip to the Peter Gabriel concert in Cleveland last night. I figured he always had something of an old man voice even in his '20s, so he'd still probably sound pretty good, and he was always known for putting on a really good show. Still had my fingers crossed a bit because he's 73, and didn't want to see some geezing Aerosmith with a broken down Steven Tyler kind of nostalgia show.

Have to say he - and his band - easily exceeded expectations. The band included his long-time bassist, drummer, and guitar player, but also included a violinist/vocalist, cellist/vocalist, horn guy, flautist, and synthesist. Sound quality and mix were perfect, which is hard with that many different instruments. He had a ton of very high end visual effects, photos, art, etc. that were integrated thematically into each song. Just a really professional show. All the instrumentation meant new arrangements for even the older stuff he played, so nothing sounded old or dated.

Fully half the concert was new material off of an album that won't be released until after the tour, and the stuff was incredible. Guess that make sense since his last studio album was released about two decades ago so he had plenty of time to work on it.

Anyway, I'll just say that if you've ever liked any of his stuff, and he's coming to play near your city, I would not miss this show. Just Google reviews of this tour, because it's getting pretty universal acclaim everywhere he's played.
 
I did the Tito/Gabriel combo last night! "Don't give up" was a knockout; the cellist/vocalist absolutely crushed it.

Band overall was lights out. That one new piece that had Gabriel at the piano, with the flautist, cellist, violinist, and then Levin playing the bow on the bass was awesome. Fit really well after the hardness/heaviness of Red Rain.

I posted Prince, who has been gone for 7 years now (hard to believe) but still has "new" music coming out and will for years. This song is new as of yesterday.

I somehow didn't see this the other day. My favorite of the new tracks so far. It's better than the version on the album. They released it the same day as Get Blue.

 
Pretty happy with Wilco's new release. I don't hear a timeless entry that will match their work in the 1990s, but it's a solid effort.

The Record Company also has a new album, saw the show last night to support it. They really want to be The Black Keys so badly.

My problem is, I don't listen to mainstream music, like almost at all anymore...

I have been listening to AmaLee and her cover songs of animes/video games lol
