New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Black Mirror is a lot of fun, I enjoyed the new season too.

Making the pig fucking one the first episode was a horrible idea though.

I'll have to check out Electric Dreams.
The Star Trek episode was so good....right down to the lens flares!

There are two interpretations of the finale btw.

The first is that she is telling the truth, the other is that she is lying. Chew on that one for a bit

interesting

Yeah, the pig fucking one was probably not the best pilot. I don't think it was the worst episode of the show, though. It's an all right episode, just not as good as the second episode. Although obviously the second episode is kind of just batshit crazy and takes place in a strange vision of the future, so that may have been why they opted for a more grounded first episode. Really, though, episode two was the only really good episode in season one. One and three were just kind of meh.

I really liked three

I thought the concept was very interesting but I didn't really think they did anything terribly interesting with it.
I was caught in the actual development. Dude looked insane at the start and he was vindicated. He got it at the end when he realized he missed the big picture.

The brutality of cheating and how that played out was pretty gripping for me

Here's why I thought it was a great pilot.

It sets the expectation that the bad guys are going to win, or at least the main character is not going to be happy in the end, which is a common thread throughout most episodes. You could argue that almost any episode could've set that expectation, but as you said, because the episode is so otherwise grounded, it really gets you thinking, "Oh, they're gonna catch this guy just in time". It plays out almost like a police procedural, but the bad guy wins.

I'll spoiler this for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Really, though, does the bad guy win? He ends up dead and, ultimately, nothing changes. The prime minister's approval rating goes up, people generally support him, and the only thing that was actually ruined was his marriage. I thought that was what made the episode great, though. The scenes where everyone is watching him fuck the pig and slowly going from laughter and ridicule to horror and feeling sorry for the guy. At the end of the day, the prime minister has his personal life destroyed, but his political life is better than ever. No one wins, really.

Re: Black Mirror's new season, love Metalhead and Hang the DJ.

Man, classic Simpsons episodes are so good.

Burns: Homer, I want you to treat this woman to the night of her life.
Homer: Marge, we're getting some drive-thru and doing it twice!

---

Insurance Agent: Now before I give you the check, one more question...this place Moe's you were at just before the crash...this is a business of some kind?
Homer's Brain: Don't tell him you were at a bar! *gasp* But what else is open at night?
Homer: It was a pornography store. I was buying pornography.
Homer's Brain: Hehehe...I woulda never thought of that.

A string of snow days in a row, so instead of shoveling I'll just binge Netflix. I have to give a shout out to Ash vs Evil Dead (has that gotten a shout in these pages?). It's like the old Evil Dead movies with some great fan service. Gory, funny, and just hits all the points for dumb fun. If that's your bag, then I highly recommend it.

Since I filled that quota of brainless stuff, I'm going to move on to something a little deeper. You all talked up Black Mirror, so I'm going to move on that one now.

Q-Tip and I discussed it a page or two ago. :chuckle:

I agree. It's why I hedged a little and added "or at least the main character is not going to be happy in the end"
