NFL Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just an aside, Packers killing it. For not having great draft placement, quality positions of need falling into their laps, and they are not over thinking things. Chicago, GB, and Detroit are all going to be tough opponents next few years.

Zinter seems like a reach value wise, but I can see why we picked him due to positional need.

I think injured players are tough to gauge. Analytically, Zinter had just some outrageous data.

He was second among interior lineman in PFF’s WAR metric. And in nearly 400 offensive pass pro snaps, he gave up zero sacks, had no penalties and surrendered only 9 total pressures.

Mix in his frame and football IQ, think there would be war rooms where he was rated much higher than the media scout pundits who dinged him for not being able to do the combine and pro day circuit.

Some more Zinter stuff…..

Lead all interior lineman in play action pass blocking grade (89.9). Won 72/73 snaps and his one snap loss did not result in a pressure.

Lead all interior lineman in overall grade on 3rd and 4th down (81.5). That included an (88.3) run blocking grade.

In over 2,000 career snaps, he surrendered just 7 QB hits and 2 sacks.

I wonder how his athletic testing would have been. From what I’ve read he seems like an average-to-above-average athlete, but would be nice to have that data. I assume the Browns have a lot of data that is not accessible to the public regarding his athletic numbers.

I’m also a bit skeptical of drafting fallers due to serious injuries; the 49ers kept doing it every year under Baalke and none of them really came back to the same level. Track record on those seems extremely mixed.

He’s not someone who won with pure athleticism, so I would suspect those guys have a better track record.

It also sounds like his injury, while ugly, was a routine surgery. Clean break, reset it, screws and he was rehabbing.

Looks like he is moving well already and bearing resistance force. Will be interesting to see how he looks at camp.

Man, the Trent Baalke obsession with injured players was hard to watch. I do think the type of injury matters. A clean break of a bone isn't the same as a blown Achilles or knees.

The lines were a big priority this draft, with DT being #1. We simply have to have someone that can apply interior pressure or we are too easy to scheme against. It sucks not having a 4, but let’s just call Jerry Jeudy our 4th this year as the 5/6 we traded is about the same value.

Skill position sizzle is fun, but look at what Pitt and Cincy are doing. It’s a man’s division we are in and you need to have some nasty. I think it’s anyone’s division.

The Watson tax will be fully paid off today. I still don’t see it as a franchise killer. We are in fine shape and are well positioned to take a QB in the next two drafts if needed. Let’s hope he finally finds his mojo.

Day 3: it’s a cliche but BPA. Being extremely confident in our GM is a great feeling.

It pains me that AFC North drafts well year after year—

As long a Pittsburgh takes anyone but Cade Stovet then I happy

Oh just about 5-6 picks to go here.

Anyone left?
