Well, the Cavs got 3 top notch FA's and 1 reportedly excellent european star. They successfully dealt with every major problem and need we had this offseason. Now we are in great position, which I don't think I have ever felt any Cleveland team has been in since the Indians of the 90's.

So now what? With the players we have and the ones we are suppose to sign we only have 12 roster spots filled. We need to sign 2 more players to meet the league minimum.

Who are the canidates?

Robert Traylor is an option, but frankly I am not sure if we can sign him or not, do we have any space to sign him?

Gooden might be traded, so numerous players could be brought in that way.

Summer leaguers could also be added. Who are our best prospects? I haven't kept up on that stuff very well.

We need another big man on the roster obvious. Z, Gooden, Marshall and AV can hold it down, but if one goes down, someone needs to step in. Marty is definitely going overseas.

I already posted my desire of trading Gooden, Pavs and Newble for Magloire and then using the extra cap space to sign Traylor again.

I don't know what is going to happen, but I trust Ferry is going to a good job doing it. He hasn't made a bad move yet.

Outside of trades there is a possiblity that 1 or 2 summer leaguers get a shot. We will still require 1 more point guard likely to be stashed on the non active list or even the NBDL. Gilchrist, Stepp and Lucas are possibilities. Up front Thomas and Freije are a small chance, but Olumide Oyedeji really stepped up and demanded a spot.

Outside of the summer league kids, I see us chasing one veteran big man who can play behind Ilgauskas. Depending on whether we have cap space is who we attack. Dale Davis is my first option, with someone like Vitaly Potapenko not far behind.

I think Ferry will sign Olumide Oyedeji off the summer league team for the minimum and OO will be the 5th/emergency big man.

Then he will sign one of the three young point guards, Stepp/Lucas III/Gilchrist, to a minimum contract and let them be the emergency/third string/developmental young point guard.

Oyedeji is a lock we may add Lucas, I say get Traylor or DD. Isnt it awesome to have a roster of 14 players who are all solid. Not like last year when we had Wagner Diop and scrubs and stuff..

Just think back to last years roster!? We are so much better now, we are actually a good team...and I actually believe what I am saying!

Last years roster rejects:

McInnis - we loved this guy for a while. He was in my plans for this team! But as the season went on, he started getting to big for himself, talking about getting paid what a starting PG should get paid. He hasn't even been mentioned by anyone for their team.

Williams - He did absolutely nothing for the team. Good guy, but an absolutely useless player at this point.

Diop - has done nothing for 3 years. Total waste of a pick and salary.

Wagner - couldn't stay healthy long enough to show us anything. He was a nonfactor

Harris - an outsider shooter who couldn't hit an outside shot.

Welsch - ...sign...

I think the only guy we have on the team that is like those guys now is Newble. Everyone else does something well. Snow isn't worth his contract, but he isn't useless. I am just...so...happy. <:)

blake stepp has done nothing but good things in the summer league. freije will get a look. maybe lucas will get invited. gilchrest is an nba point guard but hasn't shown the ability to get anybody else involved. stepp has looked like a pro.

Gilchrist won't get an invite, he missed meeting and only had 2 good games..oyedeji showed up every game and lucas was solid when called upon..

If we trade Gooden for a pick does that get counted towards us and the cap. if not i think that we trade gooden for a pick, use that money to sign sarunas and bring back tractor traylor. then from summer league we bring in steep and olumide oyedeji. that would give us solid roster with young and veteran players..

The pick will not count against the cap. It will only count when we actually draft the player, hense saving us a tidy 4 million.

I think we're a nice two deep at four out of five positions, three deep in some cases. The only remaining hole in the doughnut is a big man who can back up Z or play in his place in the event he is injured. Neither Marshall, Gooden nor Varejao fills that bill. I always plug Vitaly for this role, but my guess is that Seattle will make him a decent offer now that Jerome James has signed with the Knicks (what a bad move for the Knicks, but that's another story). So, maybe Karma's man Dale Davis is the right person at the right price. He's an old geezer at this point, but he always looks to be in good shape.

newble is worth keeping, and snow, just for d sake of veteran leadership

Worth keeping? No way. I keep on hearing this over and over-"good veteran leadership, good defenders". There are a lot of veterans I'd much rather have for the 8.5M we are paying these two this year. Last year Ira was our "defensive specialist". Why? Because he couldn't shoot, and we were embarrassed our starting 2 guard averaged 5 points....so we called him a 'defensive speacialist'. We still owe Snow 4 yrs at $ 26,000,000. Worth it? Hellll no! Same thing.....the guys averaged 4 and 4. Paxson tried selling him as a tough defender, great member of the community, a veteran. Even if that were all true we are still grossly overpaying him.
There are a lot of veterans tough defenders out there who are worth 8.5M......unfortuately Snow and Ira are not two of them.

That said, we are stuck with Snow for at least 3 more years. Ira we may be able to package.

well depending on what the cap number actually is the Cavaliers won't have a lot of room left after everyone official signs. i still think the can bring quality guys they just have to convince them they will have a chance at some championship bling in the next few years and that could be worth more then a couple extra million. the problem is from a far it seems most players would rather take the cash.

i keep trying to decipher this cap situation. can we now sign players to minimum contracts and still go over the cap and not be penalized? if so then i think that tractor is a lock to come back? he would be our cheapest consideration and would not penalize us IF i am reading this right and if he agrees to the minimum..

If we could, there is no doubt that the Cavs would drop Newble and Snows contracts. Newble is not worth the money and neither is Snow. Snow at least brings something to the team, but not 6 million dollars worth of anything. Newble is filler. Does everything fine, but 75% of the players in the league do everything he does just as well and have other tools.

We should try to orchestrate a trade for Chris Mihm. He's solid and can back up Z well. I think LAL might be open to obtaining Drew. Zenmaster might just be able to clear up Drew's head. They need a true PF, and Drew can become that under the right guidance.
