I thought we should start a off season trade idea thread so we could continue our trade talks. It seems to be a RCF favorite thing to do.

I will start it off and say we should try to deal Pavlovic to someone for whatever we can get. His contract is too heavy and we really dont need him now that we got Wally. They are to similar of a player, pavs is a better defenender though.

Possibly look to package AV but im not sure yet on that. We have to see how he fits in with the new frontcourt.

This coming draft is huge. We have busted out on Dujan Wagner,Luke Jackson, shannon Brown, the african guy. We really need to get in this draft and get a slam dunk kind of guy who will be able to contribute to this team and play a role. Since we finally have a 1st round pick we should be able to do something positive. We should try to move up though conisdering we will win the east and be one of the last picks in the 1st round.

I can see Ferry using a combination package of the pick, whoever is an expiring/doesn't fit in to land us a big name garunteed performer.

ya hey might do that SAwdutz because if we go deep in the playoffs our pick might not be worth a damn to our team.

Do we or do we not have a second round pick for this upcoming draft? I have read on mock drafts that we do, but some on RCF say we dont.

To me, Michael Redd and Vince Carter seem to be the most obvious SG options. Both are owed a lot of money and both teams could use some expiring deals. Before the Bibby trade I had Joe Johnson on this list as well, but they seem to actually be taking steps in the right direction.

I'd love for them to try to get Brand, but I'm not sure how they'd convince the Clippers to give him up. If he doesn't opt for early termination this summer (and I don't know why he would), he'll be in the last year of his deal, so the Cavs will actually have to trade talent, not just expiring contracts, to land him. The same goes for Gilbert Arenas.

I was hoping that if the Mavs would end up being the 9th team in the West and then start out slowly next next year, they might be willing to trade Dirk (after the poor finals performance, poor first round showing, there were rumors that Avery wanted him dealt this deadline). I figure a package of draft picks, Varejao and expiring contracts would be kinda tempting if the Mavs went in that direction.

Unless someone like 'Melo or Wade decides to demand a trade, I'm not sure who else is out there. There's Jermaine O'Neal, but I'd be hesitant to touch that contract with his injury history.

I am rooting HARD for the Hawks to miss the playoffs, and for two reasons:

1) They get what they deserve for stealing Bibby away from us in the middle of the night like thieves.

2) Joe Johnson might be on the block.

Let's face it: a guy like JJ at the max on a non-playoff team in the EAST? Atlanta might look for expirings and a couple of first-rounders for Johnson if they miss the postseason yet again. In that case, I'd love for the Cavs to stockpile their ammunition of Wally's massive expiring contract and pull the trigger on a trade like that. I've been on the JJ bandwagon since '05 and would absolutely go nuts if we landed him...better late than never!

agreed.

I think Johnson would be the best fit basketball-wise and 'keeping LeBron beyond 2010'-wise.

What about DeSagana Diop.

I mentioned this in a different thread, but even if Atlanta shits the bed and goes nowhere, is there really a need for the Hawks to get rid of Joe Johnson's contract? It's not like they have issues with cap flexibility -- after next season they're currently committed to $27M in salaries, and that figure includes JJ's $15M tab. Granted, that number will be higher if they extend Josh Smith and/or Josh Childress, but they'll still be well below the cap, depending on what they do this offseason. I just don't see any sort of urgency for them to unload JJ unless JJ himself demands a trade.

JJ can certainly be had for the right price, but I'm afraid that the right price is gonna be pretty high. Considering the Hawks gave up two 1st-rounders to acquire JJ in the first place, I'd have to think that the asking price would at the very least be a young talent such as Boobie (depending on the numbers on his contract extension) or Andy, plus expirings, and multiple draft picks including at least a 1st-rounder.

All along, I've felt that JJ is about as close to a perfect fit to this team that there is out there, but even then, that asking price is a bit steep. I think that we have the trade assets next year to actually bring in two very solid contributors.

figures we give up a first rounder for jiri welsh

Not realistic but I think we should try for Dirk. :)

My thinking with the Atlanta situation went like this:

1) we have owner ship problems and savign $$ is good
2) we paid JJ a ton of money to be the No. 1 guy, and we still stink
3) we've had JJ for a few years and it might be time to shake things up
4) we have young players coming into their second contract (who all play the same position) who we need to pay (some who play the same position as JJ)
5) getting cap relief, varejo and draft picks wouldn't be a bad haul

(basically, it was mostly based on their so-so ownership and general crappiness)

Andy would certainly have to be included but I think we could make it happen

Andy Snow and a 1st and more player to make money work for Johnson

that would leave us really really old in the front court and desperate for a Young big man but we could easily win a title with that lineup

might be able to do it

I'd be very hesitant to trade away Andy, who will be our most valuable trading chip, without getting a nice frontcourt piece in return. I'm still holding out hope that the Suns continue their poor play. As it stands, they're currently 6th in the West, and just 3-5 since the Shaq trade. Again, I've mentioned this in other threads, but I get the feeling that should Phoenix decide to blow it up, Amare will not be considered an untouchable. As a matter of fact, they've been willing to trade him away in the past (although it should be noted that it was an attempt to acquire KG). Apart from the desperation trade for Shaq, the Suns have shown strong interest in cutting down payroll, and trading away Stoudemire for expirings and young talent or draft picks is a start. I'm curious as to how the Suns would react to an offer of Andy + Snow + Damon + 1st and 2nd round picks for Amare.

If we could pull something like that off, then I'd turn around and revisit the Mike Miller trade talks. Given the interest in Sasha that the Grizz showed this past offseason, I'd see how they feel about Sasha + Wally for Miller + Cardinal + Lowry. I feel like Memphis would still like to dump salary, and by willing to take Cardinal's contract, we'd be able to make a deal happen to acquire Miller without having to give up a draft pick. I've explained elsewhere my preference of trading for Miller as opposed to Redd or Joe Johnson, mostly because Miller would come cheapest of the three by far, and would leave us with enough trade assets to potentially swing another deal.

I don't see these deals as cap-killers either. Amare's contract is a heavy one, but having his relatively young blood and athleticism in the frontcourt justifies the contract. And taking on Cardinal's crap contract isn't too damaging, as his contract only runs two more years after this season. This would leave us with $30.5M in expirings between Ben, Cardinal, and Miller, not including Z's option year of $11.5M.

I must emphasize that I realize pulling off such deals is less than likely, and would be an absolute coup as far as I'm concerned. However, the way our cap flexibility is currently structured, with the potential for nice expirings as assets the next two years, I'm very excited about the options that we will have, and very anxious to see how everything unfolds.

Dont want to give Andy unless we have to....
I would try a Wally(13 Mil expiring) Pavs and 1st for JJ.

I agree with what Max said earlier in another thread

I like the idea of going after Elton Brand...Duke guy...ferry is a Duke guy

Good defender and soldi rebounder and he can go get us 20-25 a night as well

AV would make sense for LA as well...young big with an expring contract who they could pay if they want as he might match up well with Kaman who is really been coming on this year

plus it saves them money without going in too much of a hole personel wise
