Official Browns GM Search Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not sure why we're talking about analytics as if it's a new concept for the Browns. That department was created by Joe Banner in 2012-- led by Ken Kovash.

I know Farmer had mentioned the use of analytics on a number of occasions to justify a hiring or a signing but maybe Haslam didn't think he valued them enough? Regardless, the Browns have had the information at their disposal for years.

Oh God ajz, you have just made a fatal mistake. The last guy who cited his own twitter.... well let's just say he don't come round these parts no more.
Yeah I have done it before a couple times to promote the Podcast and twitter handle. Today we taped our last one. If we pass on Goff that will be the end of the Orange Helmet Podcast.

Is there a story here? I missed this.

That doesn't strike me as a guy who decides who should be on the field on Sunday's. It sounds like a resume that will lead to us all saying "why the fuck did they hire that guy 3 years ago?". Maybe his skill as a recruiter will offset all these concerns.
Or maybe in 3 years it will revolutionize the way that every NFL front office is structured and evaluates talent?

I mean those are just two ends of the extreme, but the potential for being ahead of the curve is certainly there.

We've tried hiring top level execs (Savage), we tried letting our coaches run the show (Mangini, Butch), we even tried hiring guys with a Super Bowl pedigree (Holmgren).

You know what? Sashi it is. Give me the numbers guy. Because we haven't been able to evaluate talent with "football minds" for shit.

As stated by @MalTalm above, there's more than one way to skin a cat. As to say, there's more than one method to identify and utilize the information. It would appear that Sashi is doing something a bit different.

We will talk ourselves into anything, won't we? :chuckle:

I'll wait to see who Sashi pulls as his 'GM' and coach before I label him one way or the other. The initial rumblings about league wide interest are certainly a concern, but this is where we find out what a communicator this guy is in the interviews and if he can pull in the kind of talent he needs to be successful.

Tennessee just made a pretty similar move compared to what Cleveland did, promoting Underwood to President.

Seems like a house of cards over there, too.

Not surprised. Because it isn't a traditional GM role and Sashi Brown will have the vast majority of those duties. We aren't in the market for the top GM candidates. That's just the plain truth.

People say Tennessee is hugely attractive for GM candidates because, right off the bat, you can mug a QB-hungry team for a ton of picks. But is it worth trading down and missing on Bosa, who will go #3 to San Diego? Because here's the thing: the only teams in the Top 10 that need a QB are Cleveland, possibly SF and *maybe* Dallas (if Romo's recovery doesn't go well). I think the Titans want Bosa too much to give him up for a multitude of picks.

This is going to be Sashi's first test: not giving into a trade for #1. Of course, this hinges on Goff being the presumptive top QB. We've still got the combine and private workouts to go through; maybe red flags will go up, and Lynch will spring ahead of him.

I'm not crazy about the re-organization, and I have huge doubts about Sashi, but it's Haslam's model train set to wreck as he sees fit. At this point, I'm just hoping something goes right by accident.

If someone leaps us for Goff, draft Tunsil and hold him hostage until Tennessee wants to pay. If they don't, just flip Thomas for a 1. They lose Bosa and Tunsil.

If we lose our guy, I'm dragging them down with us!

I think people have misunderstood what the term 'analytic' means when it's referred to Sashi Brown and that's 100% Haslam's fault because he's a babbling moron and has no clue what he's talking about. He can't even properly explain what Sashi's role is. He couldn't do it at his presser last night. Apparently he contradicted himself numerous times in a meeting with local media members today when he tried to go in-depth about Sashi's role.... ugh.

Apparently Haslam's use of the word 'analytic' was meant to be 'analytical'. That means: Sashi Brown is a thinker, uses logic and analysis, looks at all angles, big picture. It wasn't meant to mean that Sashi is going to feature analytics or some how revolutionize the sport. It might be true, that he'll use analytics, but Haslam's misuse of the word just caused more confusion than it should have....
