They mentioned it and it happened offscreen? That seems like a weird choice.

He is in play in the books, right?

Yes, he's still in play in the books. But they also killed Stannis offscreen on the show, and I don't think he's going to pop up.

The one thing that has been consistent this season is that they're trying to tie up loose ends, and they don't really care how. The Bronn thing was lame, Ghost is gone, etc.. It seems to me the last thing they'd want to do is revive a plot thread or character who appears to be dead, to no real purpose. As @godfather said, D&D just want the damn thing to be over.

You don’t remember those couple episodes (I think in season 6) that dealt with the siege of Riverrun?

I read the books since then, and some things got muddled. In the book the blackfish escapes on a little dingy

I keep reading people comparing this to Dexter. Dexter was ass. I don't even know why people would get that upset, when the show wasn't even that good to begin with. A show like Dexter that is. It was always silly.

Shows like GoT don't come around very often. There's no question it was once a truly GREAT show. Never perfect, but still a great show.

This isn't even good television, at all, anymore!

The best comparison is maybe Sopranos? But I don't even think Sopranos got this bad. It definitely dropped, but was still passable television.

At least David Lynch came back and did Twin Peaks justice. But Lynch actually has artistic integrity, and would never sell out. Not to mention he's a billion times more gifted as a writer than Dumb and Dumber.

I might have to re-watch the first few seasons to get this bad taste out of my mouth.

The Blackfish’s actor was too old to film a good enough fight scene, so they killed him off screen.

He’s 1000% dead and gone.

Just watched the Purple Wedding and it was awesome. Oberon needling Cersei and Tywin ruled.

I watch to re-watch specifically when Tyrion landed in King's Landing and started being active Hand to Joffrey.

The show was just so fucking good then.

I actually think D&D got pissy with someone, whether it was HBO or GEorge or the fans. Something.

And this season is an honest-to-goodness "Fuck you." I'm not joking.

Is this just speculation on your part or are there some bread crumbs?

I’ve seen the same thing said by the ultra-hardcore fans on r/ASOIAF too. Those people literally write ten to fifteen page paragraphs analyzing one scene which intimidates the hell outta me, but you’re not the first I’ve seen say that.

D&D are going to be publicly shamed for years, maybe the rest of their lives if they fuck up Star Wars too. They have a really distinct look too - easy to pick out in a crowd. Hope I pass one of those guys on the street some day so I can kick them in the nuts.

I think that's a bit much. I agree that the writing has been terrible, that it feels rushed, and the fire may have left them... but they have put so much of their time into this season (they were on set, including during those arduous night shoots) let alone during the life cycle of this show, that it's hard to believe they'd prefer an eff you to trying to finish it off right. Granted, they didn't really succeed in these last few eps, but I'm sure they tried.

It really feels like that. Notice each episode gets even worse? It almost feels deliberate.

Or they just suck this bad and don't even care.

I think its at least obvious they lost interest though. Which pisses me off. If they lost interest, hand it off to someone else. And go make your Star Wars movies.

This show has made their careers.

The thing some of the very BEST dialouge scenes in the early season were show only scenes.

So, Roberts 1on1 with Cersei. Amazing. Show only.

Robert and Jaime talking about war stories with Barristan. Show only.

Cat finally admitting the way she treated Jon was awful to Talisa. Show only.

And....that's gone now.

That twitter thread way back about how writers write just feels more and more dead on. Martin wrote and let the characters guide him, but the last 2 seasons have been about getting to the end, so they decided the end and wrote backwards. That's why it feels so different. The characters are no longer creating the plot, they are following the plot.

If only George RR Martin continued writing the books. I mean, now its too late. Even if he finishes them, you can't do a mini series to erase this horse shit.

Too much time will have passed. Actors get much older and move on to other stuff.

So we're stuck with this.

But I still think the main issues though is just D&D always had a timeline when they wanted out. And RR had a different vision of how long it should go.

So they just threw as much garbage at the wall to fit their stupid conclusion, and then just shut the door on us and head on out.

Fuck these hacks.
