O-H-I-O!
It's that time of year boys, the Buckeyes are back in action and USC is lurking around the corner on Sept. 12, but the boys in Blue from Navy (Thank you for your service!) are in Columbus to kick off the season. Hopefully LaGarrette Blount will not be in attendance and today's game will be a peaceful affair, with the Buckeyes coming out victorious.
Offense:
TP has been hitting the weights!
The Buckeyes return 7 Offensive starters, but all eyes are on Sophomore QB Terrelle Pryor as he starts his first season as the buckeyes true #1 QB. Rumors out of camp are that Pryor has added some bulk to his frame and certain reports (unverified?) report Pryor running ridiculous 4.3 40 yard dashes . Pryor has a strong and experienced offensive line in front of him, and now that a certain Left Tackle not to be named is gone, perhaps he won't have to worry quite as much. There are fresh faces at the skill positions however. Last year's backups Daniel "Boom" Herron and Brandon Saine will combine to try and replace Beanie Wells, taken in the NFL Draft. At receiver, the Buckeyes are young, but talented. Losing Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline will hurt, but Pryor's running ability should keep defenses honest. Devier Posey, Taurian Washington, Ray Small, and Dane Sanzenbacher will get the most looks early, but keep an eye out for former NFL Star and Ohio State Alum Chris Carter's son, Duron Carter, who is a very talented freshman receiver.
Defense:
Thaddeus Gibson leads the Buckeyes D
Perhaps though, people should be focusing on the Buckeyes defense, which will be full of new faces after losing key cogs James Laurinitius, Marcus Freeman and Malcom Jenkins, amongst others. The Buckeyes return 7 defensive starters, with all eyes on Thaddeus Gibson, Lawrence Wilson, and Kurt Coleman to produce for the Buckeyes. Junior Tyler Moeller will miss the season with a head injury, but Buckeye fans will soon become familiar with Etienne Sabino, who will replace him. The Buckeyes are counting on Sabino, Ross Homan, and Austin Spittler to anchor the defense up the middle.
Prediction
Ohio State will have it's hands full against Navy, who last year had the Nations #1 rushing attack. This game is a much better means of preparation for USC than Youngstown State, however Navy should not be taken lightly. They have played in several Bowl Games recently and have beaten above average teams. The Buckeyes however are just too talented for the Middies, and should cruise by the 3rd quarter
Ohio State - 41
Navy - 10
