Open Discussion (Cavs + related issues)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Teams are all chasing big name players right now.

Jimmy Butler for example. I think the Cousins trade makes teams feel like it's possible to acquire a star player at the deadline. Ibaka was also a bigger name that was moved.

Once we get down to the final 24 hours guys like Shumpert, Wilson Chandler, etc will become more likely targets for teams.
While the Cavs/Griff made some mistakes this off season regarding the backup PG spot, let's see what transpires in the next few weeks.
I wouldn't have counted on Mo Williams anyway..but that's me.

They have a open roster spot.
I think if they don't do anything at the trade deadline , their move will come after the buyouts.

You need to get through the regular season fresh and healthy to have a chance in the postseason.

And with Delly last year Kyrie averaged 4 minutes ppg LESS than he's played this year...
I think you meant minutes per game and I agree that a Delly type backup would be helpful so that Kyrie doesn't over-extend himself in the regular season...

But, those numbers are a little skewed. Kyrie was on strict minutes restrictions after he came back from surgery. He was playing between 20-30 minutes a game for the first month-and-a-half after he came back.

Right now, he is playing just about the same minutes he has historically played during the regular season when healthy.

Now, the amount of weight he is carrying on a nightly basis in the minutes he is on the floor ... that is something a good backup could help with. I'd love to see him spending a little more time off of the ball. Hell, just someone else to bring the ball up and hand it off to LeBron or Kyrie could help his legs in May/June.

I'd be interested, for a deal along similar lines to the Carmelo deal....

Question: Is there a rumored player that you wouldn't trade for? I mean I come on here and every day, it seems like you want to trade for every single player that is linked to a rumor. Why would you want to trade for Lopez? I get the impression that you're addicted to trades and the prospect of them.

You realize that trades should make your basketball team better in some way? How would loss of floor spacing and wing defense for a plodding center that is a terrible defender and rebounder with a long history of injury (including foot/ankle) improve the team?

I like a lot of trades because I don't rate Shump, Frye or Cedi that highly.

I think in the current configuration the Cavs will be huge underdogs against the Warriors.

You know that Brook Lopez shoots 3's now at a decent clip right?
Also, can't believe we traded two 1sts for friggin Mozgov.

And a worse defender and worse rebounder than Frye who is making almost 3x salary what Frye makes. This team doesn't need more ball-dominance or players who need to be set up taking up that much salary cap. We have a hard enough time keeping Kevin Love engaged in the post. How would we feed Lopez too?

Ok, I'll bite: how does Brook Lopez improve our matchup against the Warriors?

He's probably a top 3 offensive center in the league at this point. Hitting 3PTers at a 35% clip (as the main focal point of an otherwise terrible offense, which means the percentage should climb on a decent team). He's dominant in the low post, and is probably the second best passer out of the low post after Marc Gasol. He's actually a highly underrated defender in the paint. He's a better rim protector than Love.

The basic weakness of Lopez's game is that he can't cover the PnR -- and I would agree that is a huge problem against the Warriors. OTOH, we dealt with Love being unable to cover the PnR last season (often by using Thompson, sometimes by living with the results). Thus Lopez/Thompson lineups should work quite well. Love/Lopez lineups just cause mismatches on both sides of the court, and could be effective e.g. when Zaza or others are in.

I'd prefer a big who can defend better - not many available...

Brooklyn wouldn't. Why would they be interested in role players?

If they value Cedi = First

It's not going to happen.

I just have no idea why the Cavs are holding on to Cedi if other teams are willing to give you actual value for him. Who is the last 21yo euroleague transfer who had an impact in the league in his first season? Porzingis is the only answer I have, but he was a top 5 pick in a loaded draft.

Cedi has a good chance of being a decent role player (or even a starter) right about the time the rest of this operation comes crashing down.

Rumor is Boston talking seriously with Mavs about bogut. Saying Zeller + 1st. I found the 1st hard to believe
