One thing that bugs me - I know that rosters collapse to 8-9 guys in the playoffs. However, we currently have the best 9-11 in the league off the bench: RJ/Derrick Williams/Frye (with Deron Williams/Korver/Shumpert as 6,7,8). But yesterday (even in the regular season) both Frye and Derrick Williams get DNP-CDs.
We should take advantage of the fact that we have young, playable guys at the bottom of our roster. Especially against teams like GS that aren't particularly deep outside the top 8. It's not going to be a lot of minutes, and I'm not sure exactly how to do it -- but some part of a "hustle" lineup that plays the last 3 minutes of the 3rd quarter (when LBJ usually rests), makes the most sense to me:
KI/Smith/Shumpert/RJ/Derrick Williams
could play with this a little bit, throwing Sanders in at the 5 if he is ready for playoff action. Throwing Liggins in place of Smith, etc. The goal would be to have the lineup play very fast - have Shumpert/Williams press on defense, etc. Make them fee like they just played an extra 6 minutes at the end of the 3rd quarter instead of three. Then in the 4th you hit them with a fresh LBJ and TT, etc.
We're going to have a lot of guys playing 15 MPG in the playoffs, we should be adjusting our pace to take advantage of that. It's something we can do now too, because it doesn't involve many starters.
