OSU at Penn State Game Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Playcalling is a vastly overrated part of coaching. Florida has been running the same plays for a while. So has Oregon. So has Paul Johnson, now at Ga Tech. So has Texas Tech.

What play you call isn't as important as how you execute it.

This is true to an extent. But it's all about setting your team up to win. Um, 3 run plays in a row with 2 minutes to go before the half and thus giving the ball back to Penn State is NOT my idea of "setting your team up to win."

Now they won the game so it's all irrelevant and we're all jubilant etc etc etc. Until the Rose Bowl when this will come up again.

Gotta take situation into account. They started that drive at the 20. You are talking a minimum of 50 yards to get into FG range. The likelyhood of OSU getting points is average at best.

OTOH, after they exchanged punts, they got the ball at the 43, after calling timeouts. A starting line of your own 43 gives a much higher likelyhood of getting points. And OSU was aggressive, and nearly hit a long TD pass.

So, with the lead, instead of forcing the issue with a low probability of success, he waited, and was able to be aggressive in a much more favorable situation. I have a hard time finding issue with that.

Whatever. Difference of opinion, I guess. I guarantee we will be talking about this again after the Rose Bowl, and it might not be under such favorable circumstances. So until then...good win.

Lets make the Rose Bowl first....
