To me, that sounds better than waiting until they act to try and stop this epidemic. That would potentially save the trauma of so many children affected.

This is where I think the enforcement of the child porn on the internet could use a financial boost.

Catching and punishing those involved, with rehabilitation as a mandatory inclusion in their punishment.

Problem with that is that psychologist would rather write a script than talk about issues. At least in today's society. I've been to countless psychologists who would rather say wham bam and write a script than talk about any issues I'm actually having. Granted, my situation isn't the same as that of a pedophile, but I've spoken with enough psychologists to understand that they'd rather write a script than actually find a solution for a problem.

To stir the pot for shits and giggles: What do people consider true pedophilia and where is the precise line between mental illness and biological hardwiring that is no longer acceptable because society has raised the age of legal adulthood several times in a relatively short span of time?

From an anthropological/evolutionary perspective, virtually all societies married off kids once they reached sexual maturity at 12-15 years old. 18 as a legal age making a person free to engage in intercourse (apart from states that don't have statutory rape within an age peer group) is a construct that arrived in Western societies rather late in the game; as late as the early to mid 20th Century.

So strictly speaking from a biological perspective, humans evolved and took mates once they were mature. Certainly no one can argue that attraction to children that have not gone through puberty is normal. Historically it has always been taboo, illegal and seen as reprehensible (except in societies were homosexual pedophilia was semi-acceptable including many current Islamic cultures). But is it possible that attraction to teens that are sexually mature was nothing abnormal until age restrictions were introduced? 100 years is a blink of an eye evolutionarily speaking and is it not reasonable to expect that that hardwiring is still present? In particular it was common, and even encouraged, to take as a bride a girl as young as acceptable after maturation as they are more likely to produce more children with fewer defects. Henry VII's mother was 14 when she gave birth to him.

So, who is an actual pervert and who is within the biologically normal range of finding a mate sexually attractive? Of course, this thought exercise is outside the consent argument as that has been covered.

Secondly, like I said, defending sex offenders by giving them an out by claiming its all mental illness, is supporting them in a sense.

This is the problem with saying it's a mental health issue. You're giving the pedophiles reasons to fail instead of addressing the problem. You guys on this site are very smart and it is mildly offensive that you guys don't seem to see my side of the argument or even address it. You guys legit all attacked me and @Notorious for claiming it's not a mental health issue. But suddenly once I bring up all my points you guys have nothing to say or argue. mental illnesses are serious problems and shouldn't be categorized in the same sense as horrible acts.

I'd love to hear @David. 's thoughts on this but sounds like he doesn't wanna touch it

I think treatment for pedophiles and the study of pedophilia in general is super undeveloped (pun sort of intended ugh) because like we said...these people aren't lining up to admit who they are and even once they're caught they probably aren't very forthcoming with details.

The statistics you see on the percentage of society that are pedophiles seems low much like homosexuality was low for years. Gut instinct tells me there are more of them than we think based on the amount of coverups that have taken place in various circles of society, the sex rings that have been discovered and the fact that it's a taboo subject so truly impossible to project.

So bottom line...this basically nets out to me not wanting my kid to leave the goddamn house and for @Notorious to be allowed to ride his Shetland pony around the countryside beheading suspected pedophiles with his machete.

I definitely do but I've been studying 90% of my waking hours for the last three weeks and am pulling out shrapnel from a shotgun blast of an exam today and my statement requires a certain touch that I cannot place on the ball at the moment.

Exactly my point. People are hard wired differently, doesn't make them mentally ill.

I think society has done a major injustice by claiming so many things are just mental illness issues instead of trying to fix it. It's hard to say if thoughts can be cured. Frankly, I don't think so. I have major depression, possible bipolar disorder. The problem with mental issues is it's not exactly concrete. You can never walk into a doctor office and say hey I have this issue, can you fix it. I personally don't think there are ways to stop mental issues beyond medication, but I haven't found one antidepressant that truly makes me feel 'normal.' But what is normal? How do you become normal? What can I talk about that'll make me normal again? There's no fixing it half of the time. Sure support groups for pedophiles may help. I personally think they should allow them to have child pornography. It's a problem, if you can do anything to prevent sexual attacks, do it. It may be frowned upon, but nobody needs to get hurt mentally or physically
